@Ambi, how good is H.265 compared with its predecessor? all I know is this might be the standard format for 4K but the details I got were scarce

Same quality, half the weight.

It's gonna come in handy especially considering the limited ROM on Z1.

Wow so that means the current Blu Ray disk size could fit the 4K video of the same length?

Pretty much. But it's very CPU intensive and that may reflect on the battery life. But it's good to have it nonetheless. |

I thought H.265 was standard in all 2013 flagships, don't the Xperia Z and Z Ultra support it?

Not a chance man, SoC is too weak for handling H.265.
H.265 was officially supported only with next year's Qualcomm SoC. I'm surprised how they managed to provide it for this year's S800.
More on next year SoC and H.265 support;

Is it same old, same old when it comes to Sony and their mobile phone cameras?
GSMArena didn't say many good things about the camera so far. |

No no, because 4K is 8 MP, and Full HD is 2MP, so 4K is 4 times the size. If codec gets same quality for half the size you still have a factor 2, so need 2 blurays for a 4k movie that fits 1 bluray in fulff hd h264, keeping same quality. Just based on the comment saying it compresses twice h264

But Samsung have it in the Galaxy S4:

Unless the I9500 Exynos 5 Octa is the one that supports it and I9505 doesn't.

You're right.
EDIT: @Tsepz_GP; great, seems like even S600 can handle it! But I wouldn't expect it on Z.

Well, Z1 is still very fresh, maybe it's due to software.
Software update did wonders for Z screen.

@Ambi
Only Exynos S4 supports H.265 not S600 variant. |
