i hate those benchmark things.... they are not true to everyday usage. i find it very hard to believe it performed that poorly...

Camera samples are coming in at about 3mb - 3.5mb, so definitely better than the paltry 1mb photos from the Arc. |

I am REALLY conflicted about the design. I really like ION's design, and I L-O-V-E the SO-03D design (reminds me of a better X10). I cannot, however, decide if I like the design of this one, or if I think it's boxy and ugly. o_O
Currently NExus 4, but want Xperia ZR. |

The Neo, Play and Pro all had the same design language but this somehow seems a better one to me. I think the squarer, boxier look makes it look a lot more high-end than the softer rounder lines of the Neo, for example.
What I like most of all is how they've managed to give it a completely unique look. It doesn't look like any other phone out there. I think it's the 'chin' and strip / antenna that does it.

I'm liking this device more and more for the following reasons:
1. Quick Camera works even if Security password is enabled. Once taken you CANNOT access phone or previously taken pictures - just like my iPhone 4/4S (I own both).
2. HW Design - resembles the iconic machine design of products (like iPhone 4). Also love the reversed "Convex" (something engadget doesn't know the difference between concave/convex lol) rear shape making it easier to hold.
Also is odd the rear panel is removable JUST for the MicroSIM ... but now that I think about it the case can be replaced and such minimal cost - reverting it to brand new status 
3. Icons and core system widgets that'll ship with it. They ALL look uniform in presentation and size ... this on a Gingerbread device 2.3.5/7 which is NOT what LG, Motorola Droid series, or HTC's have. VERY impressed SE/Sony leads the pack here before ICS had this encouraged. And it only took Google 4 generations to think of this, huh.
4. Global availability ambitions ... its ABOUT TIME!
5. Docking HDMI out presentations. Something Motorola has had a tough-time selling with the Droid series and Atrix models with accessories.  like Nokia are renowned for accesssories and their quality and usefulness so I really look forward to this.
Question does the shipping headphones allow me to control my music playback and calls like I can on my iPhone?! To me this is VERY critical!

I like the white, but I'd be worried that over time it would show up marks, slight discolouration etc. |

At least the black version won't end up being a finger print magnet like the Arc (midnight blue).

Actually my compact Olympus camera takes 14mp pics with an average file size of 2.7MB - this is on "normal" quality settings, the higher ones are around 8mb ("Fine" quality) and on normal quality settings there were no visible artifacts, so with this I believe Xperia S's image quality to have less pixel defects resulting from overcompression just as how Arc and its siblings were plagued by this limitation.
the new samples from e-price really convinces me that S's raw camera quality would be similar of better than Satio. the macro shots were detailed, it might not be as great as N8 on lowlight but if we scale S as an overall camera phone N8's already been limited by its aging hardware and features (sadly), I still wish Sony could provide some sort of an external flash accessory for this, maybe a Wireless flash that has its own power source would do just like in Nikon DSLRs
