Damn its annoying me now, why'd you have to go and mention it
Sorry.
At the end of the day, if that's my only problem, I'm happy to have that sorted at a service centre, rather than risk a worse handset!
I wish i'd kept my first handset tbh....hopefully this one will reveal a shocking problem or something if the screens gonna be a problem...but the thing is my CPW dont seemt to have any W44 or later stock anymore....and the next local one has no stock at all in green

Make some problems up. Don't worry; within 28 days, they replace them with pretty much no problems.

Are there any former n95 owners in here? or even anyone who was familiar with the build quality problems that had.
Would it be a fair statement to say that the K850s problems are as rife as the N95s were in relation to build quality? |

I had an n95 then k810i thn k850i....my n95 had no problems with software and only bad things with build was:
Wobbly slider(so annoying i f**ked up rails trying to fix, and then had to buy new ones )
backlight/keypad light could be seen through side of phone as it wasnt flush...didnt bother me though
housing creaked a little....thats about it.....

Well my O2 K850 with RICA037 arrived yesterday, upgraded from K800.
I have no idea what the hell all the doom mongers on here are talking about.
Solid build quality, no creaks.
Superb camera.
Great screen.
Fast UI.
Media player is excellent.
Touch buttons superb, alot better than I expected.
Looks the bollocks.
I wont be listening to whining idiots on a forum again.
K850i surpassed all expectations.
That is all. |

And do you think the k850 problems are on a scale comparable to the n95? |

Or it could just be that the "whining idiots" have early builds with problems.

Maybe, but then why should consumers have to wait so that build quality gets sorted out? Software - fair enough - but there's no excuses for poor build quality. That's why things go through testing, etc.

Solid build quality, no creaks.
- That could indeed be down to the week in which the phone was built, as the early ones have all sorts of problems.
Superb camera.
- I have to say the camera isn't as good as it should be. While 5MP isn't much higher than 3.2MP, the K800 and K810 both take sharper images with less noise. This makes me think the sensor isn't very good.
THAT SAID, when you reduce the images (as you'll see on photos posted on here) they can look very good indeed. Of course, you could just use a K810i for the same results!
Great screen.
- No disputing that.
Fast UI.
- Until you start using the music player, when it chugs along.
Media player is excellent.
- Looks good, but - again - use the music player (and stream audio BT headphones) and it's SUPER slow. I've waited 30 seconds for it to go back a screen when the music player is on (039) and that's totally unacceptable.
It's buggy too. Delete a picture or video and it takes about 10 seconds to remove it from the screen. Also, delete files and then go back - and you'll wait up to 2-3 minutes for it to 're-scan' the memory card. Now, I've got a 4GB card in the phone, but that shouldn't make a difference.
Touch buttons superb, alot better than I expected.
- When they work, they're great. I wasn't expecting to get on with it, or the navigation buttons around the keypad, but I was wrong. However, when I'm listening to music on the train and trying to use the phone, it's INFURIATING that the keys don't respond (or do, but there's a huge lag). I can't stand pressing to do something, pressing again a few seconds later, then the phone catches up and promptly starts THEN CANCELS what I've asked it to do.
Again, it's UNACCEPTABLE.
Looks the bollocks.
- It looks okay!
I wont be listening to whining idiots on a forum again.
- These people aren't whining, they're genuinely upset with the quality of the phone. Fortunately, some of these whining idiots were asked by SE to give a detailed list of faults so they can work on fixing them. These whining idiots will, hopefully, see a major firmware update that massively improves the speed and usability of the phone.
K850i surpassed all expectations.
- I'm glad you're impressed, but I think when you use it a bit longer you'll start to notice these bugs and you'll get frustrated. Again, hopefully the whining idiots you're choosing to ignore will ensure you get an update to sort things.

Well, four K850's and 28 days later I have given up on SE. After many years I should add.
Had most of the build and software problems reported here by the 'doom mongers".
Shoddy work on SE's part, should never have been released just yet.
Moved over to a Nokia N95... bloody hell does it do a lot for a phone !! Browsing with the home broadband is amazing. Playing games, viewing images, movies and video clips shot with the phone is a real boon. Video quality is stunning, no blocky crap you get with SE either.
Has NOT CRASHED, GUI is snappy too. Has the latest firmware so now I have accelerometer support too.
Camera is as good as if not better than the K850. No red fringing and a proper lens and lens cover no dust yet either. Flash in a dark room is plenty OK. Not as bright as a Xenon granted, but good enough. Sorry Plank
GPS Maps and Google mapping work great and geo tagging photos a breeze. Imagine going for a cross country walk, taking pics, geo tagging them and then downloading a kmz for Google Earth All the while a neat software app also creates the route via the GPS and counts how many paces you've walked.
Battery life is not as good of course, but its plenty good enough for a long day of calls, wifi, GPS use, SMS's oh and reliable bluetooth audio in the car with my TomTom 710 at last.
Build quality is great, feels very solid. Nice to be able to slide the keypad away too.
Sooo glad I moved.
Suggest many of you here look to get an N95 or the N82 in December !
Good luck all.
Was too soon to take on the K850 - maybe by Feb/March it will be what it should be. Truly hope that happens for you all.
PS. Not gloating honest, just amazed at what the N95 is capable of. |

I love the N95 (and that's coming from a person that generally doesn't like Nokias). However, despite my initial problems with my K850, I'm still a die hard SE fan, and unless things get a whole lot worse, I'm not going anywhere.
The N95 has had its share of issues; you've just got one after these have all been resolved. It's probably no different to getting a K850 in a few months time to be honest.
Anyway, I'm glad you're happy with your N95.

The only gripe i have with the phone is that the touchscreen activates at times when i don't want it to and the screen scratches too easily. |

What do you mean the touch screen activates at times that you don't want it to?
I've heard the opposite about the screen; it's supposed to be very robust!
