I guess i'm the only one here who finds the design rather drab and dull not to mention the red black and silver dont quite blend!the only way this phone will impress me is if it's priced really cheap as the features are already somewhat outdated before it's even released...come on give us a real TOP END phone...

Hmm actually I'm beginning to find it hard to see what more they can put into a phone...
More ram, gps, better camera and then the form factor - probably forgot something, but I guess you're going to tell me...
Point is, that yes if I wait for the model that are to replace P990i (if it's true that P1i is not this model) then what more do I need?
GPS would be cool but then again do I need it?
Can't think of anything that I need which is not included in the P1i - so what are you guys looking for in the model after the P990i since you advice people not to buy the P1i |

the first bit i agree with you. the second i don't, as i don't believe this should be a top end phone - its the phone bridging dumbphone and fully featured smartphone (i.e. the middleground between K and top P series), so why would sony ericsson kick themselves in the feet by releasing two phones in different classes that do the same things
but i do REALLY hate that colour scheme though. It just looks so much like the red shouldnt be there, and theres just a bit too much silver for my liking

Why can't SE make a P1 series that works in the US.

I'm actually quite used to the colour(s) of it now. Goes quite well with my HBH-GV435 (black and silver) and the red/white/black keyboard is quite nice IMHO.
Still not too keen on the lanyard hook on the right though. Removed the lanyard as it was annoying me.
Whilst on the train for an hour either way to a site, I found that the rubber battery cover helped the handset stay still on the table (as opposed to sliding around everywhere!)
Shame there's no lens cover.

Wonder what version of java platform its has?
In terms of running java apps, platform 8 is the latest and big step forward.

@ares
That's the phone I've been waiting for since the p990i's announcement.
I, like a number of people, WANT the next p series to have a flip and not be a m series lookalike.
l'm looking forward to the real successor to the p990i. l hope it is announced within the next 4 months.

I feel really annoyed about this release. I think its a direct response to the announcement that Apple will be releasing its iPhone soon and doens't the P1 look very like a small iPhone.
I have waited a year to get a stable P990 and now its got there there is a new phone. Why would this one be any different an experience from the P990 of a year ago. The forum already takes about slipped release dates - its the same old story.
I'm not buying into it as a business person nor as an individual. It sucks how much money do SEW think they can leech out of their customer base. Build something with quality and earn our loyalty.
My next phone will be an iPhone or a WM6 based phone if I am going to experiment I want something new - not another farce that looks like a replica

Finally I could hold one in my hand today...
It was brilliant...
Was invited to a SE Show in Sweden today and got to see all the upcoming phones and accessories.
Itīs not hard to say that its gonna be my next phone.
I dont wanna argue with anyone but they DID say its the successor to the P990 and that it is the 5th in line from P series... Notice, NOT the replacement. P990 is gonna continue to be around for a while. They almost never compared it with M600 only p990.
The release in Sweden is gonna be Q3 and I got a promise from my friend at SE that Im gonna be able to buy one in the stores in july. He said that they are finished with it and is in factory atm..
Sry for my poor english but I think u all can understand..
Well finally all I can say is that Im happy now and even more happier when I get one.. Ohh and btw This one I tried today was REALLY fast in the UI.

But the firmware of the P990i has been getting better and the recent April 10th-ish update has made it a capable handset (as far as I can tell, that is the general concensus).
Yes - it's a shame that it took so long to come and longer to get to a point where it is reliable, but it's not been ditched by SE. No-one is FORCING you to buy a P1i, the P990i is still a capable handset in it's own right - they're not leeching money off of anyone.
Yes - there will be people who will blindly go out and buy the P1i (but that's the same for all manufacturers, not just SE) and there will be people who will stick with their P990i as it does what they need it to do.
For those who DO get the P1i, they will find it is a capable handset. SE seemed to have come out of the blocks blazing with this one and have made a concerted effort to get it right (and learn from any mistakes they made with the P990i).
If you think SE have hacked you off and for that reason choose not to buy the P1i, then I'd say you're missing out on a great handset.
Don't

i think it is only natural that the SE smartphone will have the m600 form factor. the ingenious m600 qwerty keyboard makes the flip on the p990 pointless and i'm so excited about this p1i .
i hated that i had to choose between the m600 keyboard or a camera and wifi and now i will get to have both - i'm really happy. i'm sure others will feel the same. |

Hi bodum and Max,
You really are having a laugh no one denies Nokia has a huge range with specific models targeted at certain price points and even many similar models in each range.
Motorola have milked the RAZR and all it's derivatives for all it's worth, but to claim SE is any better is totally unfounded SE is heavily targeting the low and middle range markets and releasing virtually identical devices with minor cosmetic changes it is grossly over selling it's Walkman Branding and even the Cybershots are getting this treatment K800-K810 springs to mind.
Whilst aggressively pursuing profits and market share it's true innovations are slipping. SE may be no bigger or worse a whore than any another manufacturer as after all they all chase profit. But to claim it isn't is just ridiculous you really appear to see SE through rose tinted glasses and ignore the facts.
Marc
