seunlock-uk,

Yes, I suppose that I could give that a try. Thanks for the tip.

My only reservation is that I don't really know how good/thorough the backup is (i.e. will I really get back ALL of my data, programs, etc.).

slewis41,

Nope, SEUS still puts me into the never ending loop every time I try the update process.

My W950i is an unbranded version which I believe is running the generic world 2 firmware (R1B01).

Firstly you can check the firmware and CDA for sure by going to

more -> status ->

Then you will know for sure what you have.

As for SEUS backup, it is very thorough it will backup anything you want,

Settings,
Unified Inbox (Your Messages/Emails)
Gallery (Media (Pics/Music/Video)
Applications installed on Media Memory
Applications Installed on Phone Memory
etc.

See Below....

So any updates on the w950i update procedure?

I have used to separate pcs to try and update and i get the same white screen - initial screen loop. And i've used one of the pcs to update my k800i, P990i, and an M600i. This sucks!

the same computer I used to updated 2 W810i, doesnt work for my w950. Keep getting looped
I did a fullbackup and hard reset, still in the loop.
restore the backup and some of the setting is not working like before but I dont really care, the w950 is just my spare phone anyway. It just pissed me off that I could run the update before and no new firmware message, then after the new firmware released, I got looped.

seunlock-uk, i need some advice please:

As with most people the volume limiter on my 950i is driving me crazy similarly so is the '3' branding.

The phone details are: Phone R9D001, CDA R1A18

I've tried updating via SEUS but to no avail. Is it worth having the phone debranded so that I can update the FW?

I'm also keen to increase the volume, if I send the phone to you to be debranded are you able to change the CDA so that the volume limiter is consequently increaesed?

Thanks very much for your help

seunlock,

^^^^ I also have the same firmware as withey

My phone is also 3 branded and i have issues with my volume, updating via SEUS and my phone sometimes crashes when trying to make calls (the only solution being to take the battery out)

Again the same question as withey...will debranding and loading the new firmware help?

I can live with the compromised volume but not the bugs...

Thanks in advance.

As I have replied to Withey in PM.

I will post my comments here.

Debranding is IMHO a must for all PDA users, as the update regularity of Branded FW is Shocking, if it gets updated AT ALL. Therefore debranding not only allows you to remove the ancillary rubbish that service providers put on, and restore functions they disable, but it actually allows you to upgrade, the FW as is your right, via SEUS.

Increases in speed, and stability are always observed upon debranding, also increase functionality is common, as most service providers remove some of the functions of the phone, different SP's remove different one's.

So YES you should debrand your PDA, as it will fix almost every problem that anyone has with it, as most issues are UIQ FW related, and the only way to solve them is to update the FW, which you currently can't do for the branded FW's

Regarding the volume increase. Changing the CDA has increased the volume on my handset however by very little, it doesn't ad any extra "clicks" or whatever you wanna call them, I have however noticed an increase in volume output, though not major.

Please don't debrand to try and fix volume, it's pointless. We are working on a volume patch which will hopefully solve the issue however it is still a way off. So please debrand for the right reasons, we will not be doing any work on anyones handset just to try and give them a couple of decibels of volume extra.

Well... SE now has an update available for the SEUS client that takes it up to version 2.7.2.5. However, I'm still not able to update my unbranded/unlocked WWE W950i as I'm still getting that stupid white screen looping problem. OY!

COME ON SE.... PLEASE GET THIS ONE FIXED ASAP!!!
