Yep and how much cheaper a desktop is to a laptop. For the price of a low enf laptop you can get a top of the line Quad core Desktop. SO its not really comparable, although these phones are over priced to an extent imo, but if you dont want to buy it, you dont have to

Is it only me or does HTC diamond and XPERIA X1 have almost the same spec.

Nearly the same processor, same type of gps, RDS radio, autofocus camera etc. Just some minor parts that differs, screen, QWERTY and their two own software's.

Guess it depends on how you define almost.....

I think any devices in the same price range will be somewhat similar. What's your point?

That they are built on the same platform and probably will be almost the same and the memory specs for diamond will be the same in the final release of xperia x1

i think sony should go back to making phones by itself.
if they can do the vaio/bravia/vega/walkman/playstation/cybershot/trinitron all by themselves they don't need no swedes to make phones. [addsig]

I have to agree with AKSD, my WM runs out of battery quicker if I leave lot's of apps open.

Normaly i leave gdesk, contacts, calendar, swiss manager, x-plore, escarpod, control panel, advance call manager, phone anti-theft, iphone lock all running on background on my P1, everyday, and the battery life is still very good....

@ares

Stop running them and it will be even better , the standby time that is, talk time should increase by a little bit, quite negligable.

WIth UIQ you really cant monitor battery usage accurately, its just approximations, with WM you can, like I said the facts speak for themselves.

Hold up now! You didn't need to go there but since you did I will agree with you on one part, ie, Sony can go it alone for all I care but they could never build them tough ( quality wise) and as highly specced as Ericsson could or even can.

Honestly, Sony has never managed to crack it in the cellphone arena whereas Ericsson was killed by the unfortunate fire at that Philips factory.
Hell, at one stage Ericsson had 35% maket share and ahead of Nokia.

Anyway, I don't mean to turn this into an Ericsson vs Sony debate cause it is going nowhere and there'll always be those of us who would side with Ericsson and those who would go along with Sony.

What Sony Ericsson needs to do is to get its house in order and go back to what they were during the early stages of this now stagnant joint venture, then the competition would have a torrid time trying to keep up.
It's not what you do or even how you do it but in what state of mind you do it: Dups! 2009

I would think that the ultra-high-end smartphone market isn't all that lucrative. It's more of a way for a company to showcase what it can do technically. Who but diehard enthusiasts spends >$500 on a phone? >$200 for that matter.

@Whybe

I don't know about the US but here in Europe i think you would be surprised at just how many are prepared to spend £400-£500. As this is the price range for most top end smart phones and they all sell well at that price although quite a lot of people do buy branded versions and take advantage of the subsidies they get from the Networks with a new or renewed contract.

I was comparing the high-end market to the cheaper low-end models. I'm sure the majority of the money made by phone manufacturers is from their low to mid range models. I don't doubt that outside the U.S. the phone market is a lot more high-tech--we get the watered down stuff mostly We'll catch up one day.

@WhyBe

Even in INdia, these days you see more high end phones than low end ones, you'd see people with monthly incomes < 300USD using N95s, N82s and generally the latest high end Nokia.

<$300 monthly income with a $500 phone? Where's the priorities? Is that really true?

I guess the markets ARE really different then. I see alot of high-end phones in the U.S., but the predominant phones are the low to mid range phones.

@aksd,
i wonder what part of india you come from.
what you see most in india these days is the use & throw fake chinese crap.
even in the most popular malls of bombay you get to see mostly chinese phones with no name/model#.
the average indian uses cdma because the phone & calling rates are cheap infact free if you are calling a person using the same cdma network.
step into any kind of public transportation & then look around for the phones indians use. you will not find a single e90/n95 but you will find a nokia 1110i in every hand.
i have no clue where you found indians who earn $300 monthly & own a $500 n95?
probably in your circle alone.
hrithik roshan in the sony ericsson commercial flashes a w200i & in the airtel commercial shahrukh khan flashes a 1200 & not a p1i/e90 respectively, because that is not what the average indian can afford.
india is the largest market for used mobiles in the world.
it's nice to have a high esteem of one's own country but no point in falsely glorifying it.
it seems the india you speak of is limited to pali hill/chanakya puri but you forget that over 60% india is still rural having limited electricity & no street lights.
lol, sorry for spoiling your show. [addsig]

Autumn starts in mid September for the northern hemisphere, so I guess that makes it spring in the southern???

That info isn't specific enough, Leks. SE already announced the release being in the "2nd half of 2008"
