You cannot compare one photo HDR against photo non-HDR.
Other phones use HDR all the time.
Auto HDR and DRO give completely different results.
Auto HDR is stacking, DRO lifts shadows only.
Turn off the auto HDR of your s20 ultra and see how it looks.
By the way, the bad habit of turning gray clouds into blueish by samsung flagships is because of excess the HDR.
Phone of the teaser was not 5ii.
Where is it?
Where is "audio pro" app?

Hold on! They had a full on product presentation and yet they missed out to mention the purpose of additional hardware button? Do they really expect people to come to conclusion that's a customizable button? |

Dom from Xperia Tips said button summons Google.
I just saw a hands-on.
Guy shows Cinema Pro with 120fps, but there is no 25 or 60.
Just 24 and 120 for 24mm ......
Surprise is that Sony does not know when Xperia Pro will be out.

Why did they announce this phone today? Who made them do it?
Were they forced by an evil monster?
When there were IFAs and MWCs, people would have understood, Sony is there and they need to announce something.
But now, not understandable.
It's not PS5, and it's not the same launch strategy...
Anyway, same old story.
Cheers

I wonder if the pandemic has pushed back some of the releases for the phones or any products for that matter next year.
I don't think 1 large sensor is the way to go, I think keeping the 3 lenses, maybe even moving to 4, but making the sensors larger slightly to improve quality. I think hardware wise sony is up there now, software is where they should be differentiating, and bringing in more tech from other sony divisions.

LG may keep V series as main phone while having parallel projects like Wing.
Sony can easily keep 1 and 5, while doing something else.
I bet 5ii will easily outsell 5, so they can take advantage of the situation. |

Well, the point is, many people want good dynamic range inside photos they captured and sony phones currently don't have that good of a dynamic range compared to the competition, although they had improved significantly over the past few years. What I tried to say was, Sony should've made an option for us to choose auto HDR, force HDR, or no HDR at all. That's if Sony wants to attract new consumers. If they only want to attract enthusiats, then feel free to use the same thing over and over again, but I just want Sony to grow.
By the way, about turning grey clouds into bluish, that's not on the current samsung flagships anymore. And that wasn't because of the HDR, but it's just Samsung's processing that prefers oversaturated colours back then. Now, it's very much toned down. What do you even mean by "excess the HDR"? Lol
Speaking off turning HDR on and off... there's not too much of a difference, the dynamic range is still good. All I'm saying is that Sony's processing prefers the exposure on the subject. But if Sony also wants to lure new consumers into their smartphones, it should know what these people want. Don't talk s*** about phones you've never used. I can say that because I've tried most of these 2020 flagships. While Sony is not the worst, it isn't the best either, nor Samsung.
Examples:
This one was captured from inside a car, what bluish clouds were you talking about?

Where is that Xperia Pro, though??

Background. Clouds show some blue hues instead of complete gray.
3:33, not s20 ultra but strong blue hue is because of excess of HDR.
Stacking will always affect WB, because you get mid term between the photos.
Photographers prefer to deal with shadows instead.

lol you have no idea what you're talking about.
Some of HDR artefacts aren't white balance or colours. Actually, those problems are halos, distortions, midtone compressions, and more.
That white balance problem, and oversaturation especially, are problems caused by the tuning of each manufacturer.
Oh and that wasn't the problem actually, people have their own preferences. But many people want HDR in their shots and I'm 100% sure that most people want options (to enable or disable HDR). People like shots from Pixel for a reason. A huge reason, which is the dynamic range and natural colours.

I'd have probably bought that if it was released. May be they should release a PS phone with every PlayStation.
