5) The screen alone! I was shocked how good it looks. Couple with WITH the camera and a flash = ace phone!

@Ja99iE
Thanks for that mate, I think that might have done it for me, the night mode is atrocious, at least the N80's night mode captures something, noisy as it is...

Yeah it really is a great phone, just a pity it sucks at night, it might just have to be the N80 for me....

Cheers

Basically its pitch black, curtains shut, lights off, night mode is on and I'm doing a 360 degree turn on my computer chair whilst holding the camera. My monitor is on, and I very much doubt you'd see anything distinguishable if it wasn't.

Like bakayo says, it might be a phone that takes video, but it sure ain't a video phone, even more so when its dark.

Night time photo's however are a different matter, I've found that to be very impressive

But surely the problem with that is the camera has set it's exposure due to the very bright monitor in a dark room.

Normal nightime videos with ambient light don't come out anywhere near that dark (as I can testify!)

Ok, I can take one in a semi dark room and post it up. Give me an idea of the darkness level you're looking at. Pub? Club? Outside with street lights? At a concert?

All those have some ambient light, I defy any video/cam phone to take a video in total darkness as you'd need a 0 Lux (night vision) camera to do that!

Um, well, pubs and clubs mainly, and also night lit streets, you kinda knocked it on the head with the choice, those are what I'm looking for...

Cheers buddy

Just got my new phone yesterday and the biggest improvement for me is the sound quality. I've never heard anything like it

k800i first thoughts.

I've been using an old Nokia since today when my k800i arrived and to be honest I was a little bit disappointed about overall usability; probabily this is due to years of usage in "Nokia style" and must get used to it.

Anyway apart from menu navigation what I've found unaccetable is the keypad layout: IMHO the keys are too tight each other and it seems difficult to use the keypad without watching it.

Other questions/comments:

1) With the Nokia, when receiving a unwanted phone call you have an option to simply quiet the ring and let the caller think nobody is answering. I think it's a polite way to say "can't answer" instead of shutting up the phone with Sony's "busy" key. Am I missing something?

2) Quite disappointed about pc sync software; Nokia's suite was quite crappy and had to go for Oxygene manager to get acceptable usability. Tried some other third party utils but ALL lack of a basic function that is using multiple contact folders at once; don't tell me about the category trick, that's out of any business environment and anyway unusable with Exchange server public folders...Still lokking for someone that will enable this easy option....

3) about syncing, antoher feature I dislike is that if a Company contact ha no Name/Lastname info, then the contact on the phone will be empty. Other phones automatically manage this using a sort of "display as" field on the phone managing automatically Company/lastname option.

4) My firmware (R1CB001) has only english/german language options and would like to enable italian T9. Any chance to get it somewhere?

5) The radio looks like usable only with "cabled" headset... does anyone knows if it is usable with blutooth headset?

6) Another minor dislike: dual connect mode: phone/file manager.... why that? Can't I simply up/download files from the phone in phone mode?

7) Is there a way to use contacts groups/profiles? Like Business/personal atc. Different tones based on gropus profiles?

The reception looks good, at the moment I've disabled 3G to save battery.
Took a few pics and like digital cams it looks like the k800 suffers a bit in dark light conditions. Acceptable quality in outdoor light.

What i like is the form factor, the screen brightness, the USB recharging battery option (you can leave the AC adapter at home and use the USB recharger while travelling with the notebook), audio sounds great.

Ok if someone can try to answer I will post more thoughts in the next days. I'll need a bit to get used to it.

Press the down volume key on the side, it mutes the ringer/vibrate

I have found the phone synch software extremely easy to use with pc/mac. I dnt have a solution to the Exchange server problem you have. If you are Orange they have their back up option which works well with multiple contacts.

This is a bug I guess, for the reason when I enter details I put the company name in the personal name field

4) My firmware (R1CB001) has only english/german language options and would like to enable italian T9. Any chance to get it somewhere? Someone may be able to point you in the direction of the SE site/software upgrades as mine has approx 6-8 European languages if I rememeber correctly.

Im sure you can set an actuall different ringtone for each individual, not just a group, even better dont you think? Then there is the option of playing a video for a given caller...

Answer 5 - yes, you always need a cable attached for the radio for it's used for the antenna.

@ Blutarsky...

I was a little bit disappointed about overall usability; probabily this is due to years of usage in "Nokia style" and must get used to it.

That's what it is, different companies have phones that work differently according to their style.

Menu navigation what I've found unaccetable

Why? Its just aim and click... o_O I think that SE's have one of the best menu's around, they are simple and easy to use, and they are quick and cater well for the masses of features that SE's hold.

The keypad layout: IMHO the keys are too tight each other and it seems difficult to use the keypad without watching it.

Perhaps a personal preference due to hand sizes. I personally can type very fast on SE phones without looking like my K750 which features a similar if not the same keypad. I also think that SE keypads are very smart and professional like, even on some of the more quirky looking W series phones.

With the Nokia, when receiving a unwanted phone call you have an option to simply quiet the ring and let the caller think nobody is answering. I think it's a polite way to say "can't answer" instead of shutting up the phone with Sony's "busy" key. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure about your question as I personally don't call/recieve calls a lot and have never really looked for that feature. If in a quiet place I put the phone on silent of course, any calls I don't want I will press 'busy' since I personally don't think that doing that is rude at all, if your busy your busy and if you just don't like the ringer, there's no need to consider not being rude.

The radio looks like usable only with "cabled" headset... does anyone knows if it is usable with blutooth headset?

The headset is needed since that is the ariel for the radio. I'm pretty sure that providing the bluetooth headset you choose can do it, then music and radio should be possible. Since the K800 can play music across bluetooth.

Is there a way to use contacts groups/profiles? Like Business/personal atc. Different tones based on gropus profiles?

Yeah I think so. Go to phone book options and I'm pretty sure you can create groups and set ringtones for the different groups etc.

Took a few pics and like digital cams it looks like the k800 suffers a bit in dark light conditions. Acceptable quality in outdoor light.

All cameras whether normal or phone will struggle in a dim or no light, that is why the K800 is a unique phone, it has flash like normal cameras.

Thanks all for answering.

Yes the phone has about 6 languages..... I've bought it from a german site and it has german, english and no italian. I reall yneed Italian only for T9. Probably I'll have to wait for the first firmware upgrade and stuff intoit the italian....

About the multiple contacts folders I'm not using Orange.... I'm in Italy and using TIM.....dunno really why sync software around left this option out..it's not a phone problem but a sync software problem.

Wondering if anyone tried to sync data from one contact folder and repeat the operation with another folder...what will happen? First lot will be wiped away ?
