you know what guys, for the first time ever I'm going to say something negative about another device, normally I wouldn't but since there seems to be a lot of S4 people coming here and posting - some are actually moving to the Z1 and selling the Samsung but anyway
As I travel quite a bit I actually have about 40g worth of movies and Tv shows on my Sony, I find them very enjoyable to watch with a bright and vibrant screen - I could not say the same for the S4 or any Super Amoled screen - they are just too dark and saturated to make them useful for anything except sending a text message and were the name "Super" came from is beyond me - they are far far from super anything
No need to reply as I don't want to start a debate but that is just what I think |

Out of curiosity, have Sony announced when the Z1 will eventually get Android4.3 if at all?

I really hope that the unit GSMarena tested is defective... that sensor is exhibiting some rather strange behavior. It seems to be having a very hard time separating different colors... let alone the noise levels.
Keep in mind that the 808 shots are at full resolution, or 1.4 microns.. the more you downscale, the better it gets.

A nice advert of the Sony Z1:
http://m.androidauthority.com/xperia-z1-advertising-video-271160/
One more thing I have to say then I'm leaving the Z1 thread as I seem to make people bitch and moan
Sony Mobile need to create themes for their products, as a marketing student what worries me WRT the Z1 is it looks exactly like the Xperia Z, now I know someone is going to come and waffle about me being a Samsung user who's products also look samey. The difference is that with each product/sub brand Samsung create themes around the products in that brand, from the press images (the wallpaper of the phone in the press image etc...) to the TV adverts (look at GS3, and Note2 as well as GS4 and Note3), Nokia was the same with their Nseries each had a VERY DIFFERENT theme and story behind the product.
Issue here, that I've seen in the ad, the Z1 just looks like a new color of the Z (to the average person), Sony are using what seems to be the same theme as the Z, this is going to confuse the consumer, they need to get far more creative, remember the days of the SE W800? Showed a friend the ad of the Z1 and she thought it was the Z, I had to explain the differences. I wish Sony would work harder at differentiating their products, they could be killing it out there, but it's all these mistakes that are driving me nuts with them, so much potential going to waste due to poor marketing. If they could get this right they wouldn't have to put out two flagships a year, they could simply come with a strong brand message for a Z range and Z Ultra range phone and run with it. With the Z they solely relied on the waterproof aspect too much, clearly not everyone is that interested in water and dust proofing, they need to focus on other features, I feel like all the work the engineers did in the camera went to waste in that advert. Ah well.
Cheers.

Well if the phone GSM Arena had was pre-production I have to wonder if it had final release software or not. Their camera shots seem to be showing the level of noise we were seeing prior to the latest software shots.
We've been told by various insiders to expect the proper camera software for the Z1 to be coming out. Hopefully we'll see it in action in the next 2-3 weeks. |

People who are blasting the camera are completely moronic
there are more than enough reviews that prove the phone can, and does take some of the best shots on a smartphone
every now and then of course a crap one will come up
and the battery life doesn't mean crap! my xperia s lasts me more than a day easy as hell, do you really need a phone that lasts 2-3 days without charging? ever heard of plugging it in when you sleep? |

so i took a peek at GSMarena's Note 3 Preview..
lo and behold, they are praising the Note 3's camera like it's god gift to imaging. I pulled up the sample images of the same things (they took pics of the same things) and put them side by side. The Z1's Superior Auto samples look the same or better.
For a site that's "well respected" as far as mobile review sites go.. it's not very scientific in its review. Sure, it's fairly thorough, but definitely not scientific. The conditions, settings, firmware version, etc aren't laid out. And I'd be hard pressed to think they took more than one photo of anything.
If I had the money to buy a ton of different phones, so I could review them.. I'd set up some scientific experiments to show a phone's true potential. Anybody want to invest in me?
Anyway.. the camera is the least of my worries, as the HW is there and latest sw is good and will get better. 2 weeks until i make my decision.. hopefully the smartwatch deal is still around

Unfortunately, the display lottery crap, originated here is totally false.
The only thing I can say that the one who started this fabrication have hurt Esato's reputation.
Btw, I going to play with a demo Xperia Z1 soon. Any requests?
You mean fortunately for the clients, and maybe unfortunately for esato reputation?
I would say that in terms of rumors, with the xR system, this is where esato reputation will be made.
Anything that is written outside of the XR system by anyone else than the rumor thread owner would not be considered as part of the esato effort. Then everyone can post anything, what sticks is what is in the XR system.
BTW, Razec, just an idea.
For the new thread, you may want to have a post on the first page reserved for the Z2, the 4 incher and the next phablet specs.
In the form of 3 table, one per flagship, in front of each feature you have the feature value, and the XR rumor.
For instance: Z2
Screen resolution 1920x1080 XR5

^he said it right. he meant that it's unfortunate that the display lottery theory originated here on esato, because it is false. therefore hurting esato's rep.
btw those were his words. not mine. i have no information one way or the other
and maybe you should give razec that suggestion in the rumor thread so he sees it? or maybe pm him..

The noise is what bothers me as I reported earlier here when I was in 2 different Chinese showrooms. I noticed the same results GSM reported - excessive noise especially in darker areas of the photo even with the lowest iso. But some here dismissed my comment blaming me or the lighting. I think GSM would be one of the least biased review sites too. I hope that as one member mentioned here, it can be improved with updates. It's too late since I've ordered the 6903 model from handtech and I don't want to wait another 6 months. I think overall the phone was really good, but the noise was a major peeve. I hope that dropping $500 into the QX-100 won't have this noise or it will be seriously disappointing. I want to give it the benefit of the doubt and hope it is much better than the native sensor.
On a side note, in the showrooms I had also notice this difficulty of separation of colors posted in the pics on the previous page by cu015170. Can software updates truly improve this in the future?

It has been reported that the Z1 is currently running on the Z camera firmware and algorithms, that is supposed to change once they have everything cleared - someone also mentioned that it was some sort of rights issue with another party, I honestly don't know all the details, it could be something to do with Sony's camera division, there is no way of telling how much of the camera system is actually active - it may not even be using The Bionz system right now if it is running on Z's Firmware - so if the above is true then we haven't seen anything near what the camera hardware can do
This is nothing more than a rumour do take it at face value |
