So Sony fails again in camera department, even when they have bigger sensor, BIONZ and people from Cyber-Shot working on it. I said it before, was called troll etc. but as usual I was right Just accept it, Sony Z1 camera is average. And don't start with the software thing, it might just slightly improve quality, not by a margin to drag Z1 cam from average to very good basket.

Software can totally change the quality.
And you bullsh..t here since different sites have different camera experience.
Dig deeper before you post.

i have a problem with the camera test on gsmarena.
yes their camera under performs (it's still better than the lg g2 according to their charts).
but it has blurred left side in the photos...
seeing other samples from other sites proves gsmarena wrong, maybe they have a faulty device ?
we will have to wait to some more reviews.
or it could be software, which messes the focus, and as they said, they haven't had a retail unit.
it is also worth mentioning to everyone that the bionz image process is not yet finalized due to some legal issues with google
as i have suspected, the xperia z1 doesn't use AH-IPS (at least the one on GSMARENA DOESN'T), at it has a typical SPVA screen, hence the awesome 1500:1 contrast ratio with the awesome brightness and colors.
it is the best screen out there (unless you use you screen from 178 degree, then the colors wash out
and for all the trolls and haters, the camera even on gsmarena, outperform the S4, it trashes the S4 in terms of speed, it is waterproof, it will last longer than an s4, considering that you actually use your phone to talk, and you leave it in standby, it has a much better screen (colors, brightness) so what the f**k do you want ? go drink your milk, and leave this third already

I've had Xperia T before. I made tons of photos with it.
I remember GSMArena test of this device and remember blurry photos which came out of one of
their charts. However I was never able to reproduce this failure on mine, and software updates vastly improved this
device's camera performance. It doubled the quality.
So something is not right there.

forget Z1, it doesn't exist for me. I was never so dissapointed from a Sony device like this.
Display is never so good like from the Ultra, the battery sucks, loudspeaker is very low and sounds bad, cam is nothing special in my eyes, design is never so sexy like ultra or even original Z, its thicker, heavier and looks bulky, its too big for a 5 incher, it should get at least 5,5" display to compete with note 3, again Sony logo is printed on foil, still no gorilla glass, should I say more?
I never understand why Ultra has better battery results than Z1. Same processor, same battery, same display technology?!
But 6,4" vs 5" - Z1 should beat Ultra easy in batterylife but it don't.

Glad you're enjoying your Ultra
Doesn't make sense at all ,I was expecting at least 65hrs.

....the Z1 is currently the best Android smartphone available - that fact is undisputed....
I've officially heard it all, good one. The battery life alone kills that off.

Calm down people, GSM arena specifically said they had a PRE PRODUCTION model! Combine that with early software and the results are far from what we can expect in a market model. And it will only get better with sf updates...
But if you think this is all there is (and I'm not blaming any of you, things are pretty confusing), just don't buy Z1 and don't spoil this topic for the rest of us. |

I was digging, practically all photos from different sites have the blur issue on side of the photo, I was even called a troll here for pointing that out, because that blur was "apparently the result of wrong focus"...

O rly? I have Xperia T and also made a ton of photos, just recently, I'm on newest firmware and quality is pretty much crap. Just like on GSMArena review. |

Out of curiosity, have Sony announced when the Z1 will eventually get Android4.3 if at all?

it is actually normal to have sharp details in the focus area, and the left will blur up..
even with DSLR you will have blur in the non focused area....
what gsmarena have is software fault as i come to think about it now...
and we really don't know which firmware they are using at the moment.
anyway, the camera is still pretty awesome, it has amazing photos, as we over the net, it has great colors, great low light performance, and it will improve over time, ask the xperia z users...

@ambivalent .. you're talkin to a wall buddy. it's been said pages and pages ago, but they aren't going anywhere.. just waiting for any negative news so they can pounce. what can you do? haters gonna hate..
with the recent pics of Z1 making the Note 3 look like sh!t in a viewing angle test, they needed something else to focus on.. GSMarena review gave them a bite at the camera (despite tons of other sites praising camera quality) and they're running with it.

65h or 53h it doesn't matter, the main point is to get good numbers in webbrowsing and videoplayback and this is not happen here...

Sony is improving year after year. What needs to be fixed? Viewing angles on the screen? Increased battery time? what else?
Sony seems to be one of the fastest to update their devices with not just next level android versions, but with incremental updates to continually improve their devices.
They are very developer friendly, which is always A+ in my book.
Sony has improved their materials. They used to be criticized for using plastic materials, which seemed "cheap" on their flagship models. But now they're using aluminum and glass, with design touches only Sony can deliver.
Screen has definitely improved as can be seen in the GSMarena review. As with any device, viewing experience is subjective, but it's a fact that the screen has improved over the Z/ZL. Viewing angles aren't 178 degrees, but importance of viewing angles is subjective.
Sony has ALWAYS had fantastic battery life in real life use. With the addition of Stamina mode, it's even better. One test, from one review site shouldn't be the end all say all.
If you really were a hardcore fan back in the day, then I hope some day you return. The Z1 isn't for you and that's fine. No phone is perfect and we all should get whichever phone best suits our needs. There are plenty of people converting from iphone/galaxy to the Z1. I have a specific twitter feed for the Z1 and I see countless comments to that effect, every day. Of course, at the end of the day, sales numbers are what count. But we won't see that for some time.
If you fail to see that Sony is making great progress then you simply just don't want to see it. No one can help you there. After just 1 year of bringing the mobile division into Sony completely, they have made great strides and no doubt, will continue to into 2014.
What have you got to say about GSMArena's review of the Camera then?
well Mr Monkey if you took the time to read the review you would note that it was done on a """"PRE-PRODUCTION MODEL""
Either buy the phone mate or fcuk off this thread - you are really getting tired with your constant shite
and I do applologise for to the other good folk on this thread for speaking my mind - it's the Irish in me |

I'm glad Sony meet your standards, and seem to be improving in your view, but for many of us? Many things still need to be addressed, from FW Updates (the Z1 launching with 4.2.2 at this point, same - for LG, but their entire update policy is awful needs an overhaul), display, battery, codec support for AVI, MKV and XviD formats - WTF!? this is STILL ongoing??? Amongst others, and now the Z1 camera also seems not to be the shining star it was meant to be.
You know what? I'm actually done with the Z1, there just seems to be too many letdowns, some of which were highlighted by the Singaporean leaker who had a test Z1 just before announcement, much of what he pointed out has come up even in the final Z1.
Interesting some here said they'd wait for a credible review from GSMArena, and now that the review isn't as positive as some expected it is being questioned. This is the same thing that seems to happen every year WRT Sony and its fans, vicious cycle.
I'm going to sit back and have a laugh at the excuses now, this place is going to be full of them, right up until the Z2 arrives at which point the Z1's letdowns will finally be admitted to but at least the Z2 will be here by then, and so it goes on...
can you link us to someone that has a final Z1 that you talk about
You know what you're done with the Z1 as stated above and we will miss you - don't slam the door on the way out - bye |
