My son's O2 online contract finishes on 28th October and he would love a new deal with them.
Should he email his 30 days notice of cancellation now or wait till the day before the notice would be due and phone to cancel? |

Hi I have been with O2 online for approx 1 and 1/2 years. I upgraded my phone in Jan. Does this mean that I have to wait before I can upgrade again or try as you guys have and get a better deal out of them? I am currently on online 200 for £30 per month but would luv the deals you guys are geting. I am looking to get the SE W800i |

They will normally upgrade you from the 11th month of your 12 month contract (when you upgrade you agree to another 12 month contract) so you should be able to get an upgrade in december.

JEM16 - You can upgrade exactly 11 months so get your son to call up then and ask for his PAC code. By doing this he will be passed through to the retension team and they will try to do him a deal to keep him with O2. IMPORTANT - He must keep up the pretense that he is leaving, only then will he get the best deal possible.

Has anyone come across deals that include attractive roaming terms?
I get pretty good deals from O2 as a relatively heavy user, but I never use up all of my 'free' (bundled) minutes and texts. More often my nasty bills are a result of too much travel - can't escape the roaming.
I have, in the past used this technique ('better offer' from a competitor) to get deals, but until the last upgrade (when I got my S700i) didn't think about asking for better roaming. I felt a bit 'guilty' about this technique but, on second thought, greedy operators who are after market share and subscriber numbers (and are stupidly ready to do anything to 'save' a churning customer) actually deserve> to be treated like this
Any travellers here to share best roaming deals?
Cheerz,

Vodafone now let you use some of your inclusive minutes when you are abroad. If you use your phone abroad a lot then I would have a look there. |

OK. So I decided to try my luck and see what I was offered to stay. I asked for my PAC, quoting the 3 deal (500 xnet, 500 texts / £15 per month) when I was asked why I wanted to leave, I said it just sounded like too good a deal to miss.
"Would you be interested in staying if we could match or beat that?" I got asked. "Go on then...". So, a bit of on hold, and a bit of chat with the manager later, and he came back with
"500 minutes, and 200 texts..."
OK, I thought. I could go for that. 200 texts is fine for me. K750i here I come
"... £25 a month, or I could just give you your PAC".
I told him I was really looking for something a bit closer to the £15 a month, especially as I was getting less texts, went on hold again... then came back and gave me my PAC
So where does this leave me? Currently spending £25 - £30 a month on Online Off Peak 300, and 11 months into contract.
I've read here that you should just phone again, but surely they'll just say "Get stuffed. We gave your your PAC yesterday". Any ideas on the best tactic for phoning back and getting a deal, but not giving it away that you'll probably be staying anyway?! Or do I just phone Retentions tomorrow, and do the whole thing again, pretending that today never happened?! |

You might have a problem as your PAC number has been issued so it will be recorded that you tried before. You dont have to use the PAC number.

I'd just ring again, i'm guessing that you'll be put through to a different advisor. Seems like they are less leniant now though. When I was told that he might be able to match the 3 deal, I inadvertently said yes almost before he finished his sentence and he still offered it with 200txt for £20.
Also, I was told the W800i would be in stock and would be sent mid-sept, but he couldn't pre-order it for me "on the system". Should I just trust them and wait, or should I ring up and make sure that the order has gone through? |

@muddytrousers
I would phone them and ask when your phone will arrive and they should confirm the details with you.

Thanks @muddytrousers and @jcwhite_uk.
I'll probably try phoning again tomorrow and see what they say. I'll say I've thought about it and the deal they offered sounded good, and then once they start talking again. see if I can get any further on the price! |

Well, after yesterday's poor offer, I gave Retentions another shot today before I actually did use my PAC and transfer out.
This time I was offered 500 xnet anytime mins, 200 texts, and a free K750i for £19/month. So, £6 less a month and a free phone. I know there have been better offers, but it's much better than I'm on at the moment, and I get a free K750i!!!
Only downside is now that they have put the order through, it's showing as "Provisioning Failed" - does this mean they're out of stock again already? Hope I don't have to wait weeks to get the phone... |

If you remember I was offered:
500Xnet, 300 texts, free V3 for £15/month.
I received the phone, and checked my bill online. They charged me £10 for "Discount 500" (500 Xnet mins + 200 texts), plus £10 for 200 text message bolt-0n. Therefore I had to pay £20 for 500Xnet and 400 texts.
I called them and after a long conversation, agreed that they should only have charged £5 for 100 text bolt-on, therefore making my monthly payment £15. They put a credit of £5 on my account, to make up for this.
I then said I didn't want the £5 bolt-on (for 100 messages), so from next month I will "only" pay:
£10 for 500Xnet and 200 texts
Although 300 texts would have been nice, I didn't believe it was worth paying an extra £5/month.

Ok, I have just been offered the following:
K750i FOC
750 xnet mins
500 txts
@£35 PCM for 12 months.
or
K750i FOC
750 xnet mins
300 txts
@£34 PCM for 12 months.
or
K750i FOC
400 xnet mins
1000 txts
@£30 PCM for 12 months.
That was about as flexible as they got, I think I might go for the £35 tariff........?
