Unveiling Xperia XZ Premium |

After watching that hands on, think I'm sold! As enticing the S8+ is due to the the larger screen, better screen to body ratio, and shorter wait time, think I'll have to go with the XZ Premium. Can't wait to go back to a Sony device! Haven't really liked the devices I've gotten since my Z1, there's always something that bothers me with each one. Guess the only downside is that I'll have to go back to a slightly smaller screen with the XZ Premium.
@moogoo Looks like we're getting the same phone from the same place during the same time frame again, just like our Z1! And, good idea to get rid of your XZ soon, as you can get a brand new one for as low as $430. Have you tried selling the device on swappa? |

@MNX1024 ha.. indeed. what device are you using now that you'd be going back to a smaller screen with the XZP at 5.5"? I've tried craigslist so far and was getting low balled. I will have to try again and lower my price. I am trying to avoid anything that will take a cut or make me have to ship it. The less work the better. I need to get rid of it soon though.. price keeps dropping.

Been using the Nexus 6P for almost 1.5 years already, prior to that was a Asus Zenfone 2. Since I watch a lot of videos on my phone and do a lot of reading, a larger screen is really nice to have. Hence, the S8+ is so enticing for me. Anyway, going to miss that 0.2 inch from my Nexus 6P . But, I really miss the physical camera button and water proofing on my Z1. With that 4K screen shown on that hands-on, I just can't resist it. |

The Premium looks good, what concerns me is the small battery and the 4K screen. |

The display is mightily impressive, can only imagine how good it'll look with the naked eye. Recording 4K videos with SteadyShot, (yes it now works in 4K!) they're going to look ridiculously awesome.

MNX - yea that 4K with HDR in the hands on makes the galaxy S7 screen look horrible, which it isn't. It's a nice screen for sure, but the HDR and color reproduction of the XZP makes the S7 look like trash. I don't think you'll miss those .2 inches
I am slightly concerned about battery life with a 4K screen. Would be nicer if there was a beefier battery, but the 835 is supposed to be extra efficient, right? so maybe that's where it gets the battery life savings.
xperiajunkie - where did you read/see that? Also, what's the limit on length of video? I wonder how long it can go before it gets cut off and/or overheats. The overheating has been a problem for awhile in xperia phones. though i've never experienced it myself (since i'm not a big video person), it's always a point of discussion it seems.

@moogoo it's mentioned on a quick hands on with BTEKT I think, as far as overhearing goes I've managed 15 mins of full HD @ 60fps without any issues with MY XZ (image below) so the Premium can only be better I'd say.

I see. Yea i remember you posted that in the XZ thread. Is 15 mins the max time? I've never tried myself. I would hope XZP is better. Especially with a more efficient processor and more real estate to disperse heat.

I could of went longer to be honest as I never got the "camera shutdown" message and there was no significant amount of heat from the phone either.

I think one of the reasons people have varying experiences with how long they can record 4K is simply due to environment. If you are in 35°c heat the phone is bound to hit its limit much sooner than if you are in 15°c heat, especially with these phones being so heavily sealed for water and sustainable resistance.

I agree. My Z2 heats up so easily when I am hiking that I constanly have to splash some water over its back when I'm taking pictures.
Giving me the message: the camera needs to shut down. Anyway, that's for my Z2. The XZ premium might have some better cooling tech. |

I would imagine all companies with sealed devices have worked hard to overcome the heating issues by now.

The Sony engineers have definitely thought about heat dissipation and you can see it in these teardown photos

Shocked nobody has said anything about GSMArena bias in this article.
