well my phone was branded on o2 uk and i didnt seem to notice any green tint but when i debranded to world generic 1 i now seem to have the green tint!!
so i think its a firmware issue
Ben it's easy to prove it was a firmware issue. Let us be the judges. Just post here some pictures with o2. software and some after unbranding your phone. Everybody will know if the flaw occured after rebranding or it was a hardware issue, unfortunately :/
No matter what's in the picture. I looked at http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=151820&start=30 and every one picture seem to be "flawed" or "tinted".
Imo it is a hardware issue :/. I wish you can prove me wrong! |

well one poor fix to the problem is colour adjusting photographs. Like i said this is not a good fix but it works.
What do you mean by colour adjusting? Some software that can reduce green in the right hand side of a picture?
Maybe somebody has constructed a filter for P1i pictures that could reduce green in pictures? I really don't know anything about graphic programs but i think it can be done. A universal filter that could change pictures reducing the tint? Maybe in gimp or photoshop? |

well in photoshop you can select the area of the photo you wish to adjust and then alter the propeties of the shadows, highlights and midtones until the green tint is gone.
I'm no expert in photoshop but after about 5 minutes i was capable of doing it very easily on my photos which i want to look their best.

There is only onw way to do this.
1. Make a full white photo, ex. a white sheet of paper without shadows and uniform light.
2. Transform this photo to create a filter (make adjustments as necessary)
3. On the new photos, apply a *subtract* filter using white sheet photo and the new photographs.
The final result are photos without the green tint - it was subtracted from the photos.

the reason i didn't think of anything like what you suggest LAU is:
First it seems to complicated
Secondly in some of my photos the green tint is greater than in others, so if you have a uniform filter i would have thought that in some cases you may over compensate, therefore using a colour adjustment you can fix the levels as you see fit to get the best possible result.
If you could explain this idea of creating a filter a bit more i'll be glad to give it a go when i get some time.

50% of you says it is firmware issue, and 50% says it is camera module issue.
The problem is this, how does the service provider 'repair' the bloody camera? Does he reinstall the firmware or he really chunk out the bloody camera and put in a new one, and what the ****, where does the 'new' camera unit come from? Alice's wonderland? |

Well, I sent it for repair (originally for a speaker issue but also mentioned the camera green tint problem). Got it back with a working camera (and speaker). The firmware was the same as I put on before sending it so nothing changed there leading to the conclusion that the camera was replaced.
Where it comes from? Probably a proper batch... I guess they got a bad batch of camera modules and now also have a proper batch.
You can correct for coloring in firmware but since the issue is not consistent you can't fix it completely in the firmware/software. So a 50% fix might be possible but it appears only replacing the camera module fixes it 100%. |

Wow the support in Europe is really good, mine is in Asia and let's see how it goes. Anyway how long do they take to replace the camera? |

I also phoned up today to get it replaced, getting it replaced isnt the issue on my end. The problem over here is that they will not swap the camera module, they will actually swap the phone.
So this could mean i end up with a phone which is worse then the one i have right now right?
I dont know i will try and firmware update like they said first of all, doubt it will work...and then i will look to see if i can manage an in store swap rather than by mail that way i can test the camera first... |

It they swap the phone and the IMEI changes, you are into a lot of trouble because the software you purchased needs new serial numbers (IMEI changed). |

@ Lau
Thanks for pointing that one out i didn't even think about that at all. In all fairness i haven't purchased a lot since the p1 does most of what i need out of the box. But it still would have been a pain in the backside to have that hassle.
Anyways an update on my situation, when i phoned the company up they advised me to do a software update first then if the problem was not sorted send it in to them
After the update, with my heart in my mouth from the sheer fear of bricking my phone, the green tint SEEMS to have vanished.
I took a couple of photos and i had a uniform colour distribution across the whole shot!!!
I could be wishing myself not to see any green tint who knows, but one thing is for sure photos look much better now! |

I was the person that had their phone 'fixed' by o2. I have just had the opportunity to take a range of photos in a range of conditions and get the developed. Guess what the green tint is still there.
It seems to be more prevalent in certain conditons and although reduced it is still there. I am now thinking that o2 did not do anything, particular as they said that they had also updated to the latest firmware. They had not done this as I had already debranded it with seus and installed the latest firmware.
I now might return it to sony |
