It seems that the P1i is totally a new generation, not a replacement from P990 or M600. even it has the same keypad with M600 and has similiar specs with P990

@all:

I just had a look into the EMMA 3 system (to see if I have a newer firmware upgrade) and I found something interesting.

The R5A17 that current P990 users have is based on the 633_91 baseline. I check with Elena's baseline (aka P1i) and it is also based on the 633_91 baseline. The R6D18 is based on a newer baseline. The conclusion I have is that the P1i's current build is similar to the R5A17 that P990 users already have. So the R6 firmware for P990 will indeed be based on a newer baseline.

For potential P1i users, all I can say is "don't worry" as the phone will only come out at the end of the year and they should have the R6 baselines by then.

I'll absolutely stay with P990 with new FW. P1i is not for me really. Wait for the successor of P990. Hope ares is RIGHT about the design of the future P flagship retaining current constr. with flip and qwerty.

Its up to people to decide whether this is their P990 successor, some people expected the successor to be m600 style and some expect the flip. But this cannot be the M600 successor because m600 successor was Lizzy and m600 successors should have no camera.

Did you see that feature on the P1i when you were there ? Because I don't remember seeing it on the p990 when I had it.

Also, did se say that the next P series will definitely have a flip?

cheers.

I think SE took a rather huge beating by Nokia E series, and decided to discontinue the corporate telephony market i.e. M series? however they had a perfectly good form factor in the M600i, therefore they took a bit of customer comments from here and there, added a proper camera, and rebranded it under the P series?

I mean, how many of you were complaining and asking for a camera in M600i when it first came out?

AFAIK, nokia also added a camera to the E series devices that did not have it...

I wouldn't want to compare Nokia with SE. at least SE has some semblance of principle towards their product segmentation, Nokia is a whore who would do anything for that extra bit of 'customer satisfaction', regarding the point...
