Wohoo!!

The only real problem I had encountered with the original firmware was that I couldn't connect it to my car bluetooth handsfree kit - the phone would just reset each and every time a call tried to patch through it.

The update has fixed that!

So there's something else it changed.

I suspect that ayejatt is referring to the SEUS updating software rather than the firmware update itself. And beat me to the post
The W900 is not on the list of phones supported by the SEUS, weirdly enough. Hence the need to get it from another models' support page.

exactly...btw we cant select which firmware to install when it is automatically detetced so i didnt know you guys would be thinking of a w800i firmware instead of the SEUS setup file....soz 4 the confusion

I have used SEUS before, with my S700i. I'd like to think im reasonably knowlegeable with it, im just apprehensive to flash my phone when it is not listed as updateable.

I also have had a reply back from the sony ericsson support center saying, there is no update for the W900i yet when one is available it will appear on the W900i page on their web site.

(kopax) - What can I say? It worked for me, but R5BC doesn't seem significantly different to R5BB... I've half wondered if it increases the MS Pro-Duo "capacity" to 4GB to reflect the latest sticks available? Sadly, i don't have the means to test that theory _ (kopax)

I have lots more options than that (as I did before the update) - including Delivery Reports.

Hi w3bby, I have identical software, but I seem to have a full range of SMS options - Sevice centre, Email gateway, Max msg. length, Text message type, Validity period, Request reply, Delivery report.
I wonder if your data settings need adjusted? I tried changing mines from PS to CS and so on, but couldn't replicate your problem. What does your phone have listed in the following menu item?

Settings > Connectivity > Data comm. > Data accounts

Mine's says "New account
Vodafone WAP"

Yours should probably say something like "New account
3 WAP"

There are also editable settings within (for me) "Vodafone WAP" which are headed "PS data". I believe that those were set by an SMS which i requested from the Sony website (address at bottom of this post) based on my country and network. Might be worth giving that a go. Or maybe not... I just checked and 3 isn't on the list of providers?

Incidentally, i recall reading that using the "Increase SMS Inbox volume" feature of the Davinci flasher was leading to problems on some phones, but as far as I recall that option was "greyed out" on the latest version of the Davinci flasher (15.91). Just in case you were using an older version, did you enable that feature? If so, that might be the cause of the problem.

Also, doing a full master reset after flashing can (apparently) sometimes enable features that are otherwise absent.

A few guesses to work with anyway... Let us know how you get on, please.

Yes i have New Account, but i also have setting s for loads of Networks (understandable as its sim free handset) i had to manually enter the settings for 3 WAP (there own service) and 3 MMS. I got it working (somehow!) I got some settings from the net and some from other 3 phones. SMS delivery is the only thing i cant get going!

Im hesitating on the master reset for the min till i get a spare minute so i can make sure all my pics and vids are on my mem stick. And when im at home so i can put all my contacts back on my handset after (there backed up on my pc at the min)

I can see how the Data account can affect my delivery reports?!
My text messageing worked before i had set up my MMS and WAP.

The sony site wont support my phone as its not released on Three. Im probably one of very few in the country using W900i on Three as they don't like you not using one of there handsets (ive had customers disconnected for not using one of their '3' phones) plus i had to get mine imported from France (as im sure your aware there not available sim free here) cost £400!

yeah thats the screen exactly as i see it (exept mines a simfree phone, and mines is a symbol it doesn't say '3G' when i have 3 signal (thats besides the point))

But '3' supports the delivery reports, so why should it not work?

I have a similar problem...
I bought my W900i version R5FA001 and it was perfect, it had all the functions, included 3G.

During the update to R5BC004 my phone died thanks to the shitty SEUS software that don't tell you when the update is in progress...

I went to a SE center and they flashed it with R5BB001 but... i don't have 3G anymore!!
Now i can switch only between GSM/GPRS and Only GSM.
Before it was between 3G and GSM/GPRS.

I successfully updated to R5BC004 with no results.

Anyone have ideas?

Thanks

@w3bby

For some odd reason, SE don't have a download for the SEUS software available via the section for the W900, despite the fact that the W900 has been recognised by the application for quite some time. AFAIK it wasn't until R5BC that SEUS actually was able to provide an update for it though. So, what you need to do is access the downloads section for most of the other models (W800 or K750 or somesuch), download the SEUS application, and then run it with your W900 attached. If it is running any valid firmware prior to R5BC (valid is a location that corresponds to the phones IMEA, although the above CDA hack seems to bypass this) - then it'll be recognised and updated.

WARNING: Do _NOT_ assume that SEUS has frozen or whatever just because it says "Downloading firmware" (or whatever) and sits there for a long time - this screen stays displayed unchanged during the actual firmware update process. This might take up to around 15 minutes depending on the speed the USB is transferring to the phone at etc. If you unplug it prematurely your phone won't boot and you'll need to start from scratch, or in some cases take the phone to a service centre if SEUS no longer recognises it.

The W800 "version" of SEUS is the exact same version that works on every other SEUS compatible model, it's just the same link to the same file which for some unknown reason, SE haven't put in the downloads section for the W900. SEUS will pop up with a picture of whatever phone it detects (i.e. your W900 if it's plugged in) and will only retrieve and/or flash the latest available (if any) firmware for that model.

SEUS is also self-updating, so you don't need to download new versions of the client, it updates itself on startup if there's newer versions of itself available. Updates don't include the firmware data, that's downloaded during the flashing process only for whatever phone is plugged in at the time.
