We've seen another earthquake in the mobile landscape with microsoft taking over nokia, they've made it very clear, you're not gonna be number three, they're going to be number three, how do you respond to that?

Kazuo Hirai: "I think that it's a little early to really ascertain the impact going forward, but certainly we have a great relationship with microsoft as well in a variety of businesses, and again I think the important thing for Sony is to make sure that we are bringing the best smartphones that we can design to deliver to our customers around the world, to make sure that we are in a position to win against our competitors."

How are you going to fare though in a powerful Nokia-Microsoft relation, owning both the hardware and the software?

Kazuo Hirai: "I think that if you look at the market share of all operating systems in the smartphone right now, and our bet right now is with Android. That system right now is gaining a lot of market share."

Does it worry you that, despite all the progress you're making, all noise seems to be coming from other companies. Samsung today is unveiling a smartwatch, you've been making smartwatches for awhile, but why are they gaining more consumer awareness perhaps than you?

Kazuo Hirai: "I think it's just a matter of making sure that we spend more and more resources in marketing our message, or sending our message to certainly members of the media but as well as to the important customers around the world, whether it's through advertising, promotions or at retail where it matters the most, we're really making sure that we get the message out there."

Do you think you're a better company than Samsung? Do you think your products are better?

Kazuo Hirai: "We are on so many different product categories, for example we have a leadership position in the video game space with Playstation 4 coming up this year, that's a scenario that's Samsung's not in, We are obviously very strong our entertainment properties and financial services. Entertaiment is something that Samsung is not in, so I think it's a little bit difficult to try and compare our company with Samsung as well as other companies for that matter."

Do you think smartwatches are going to be the next big thing?

Kazuo Hirai: "I think that with the smartwatch and the other so-called wearables, I think that's going to be a very important market going forward."

You face pressure from an activist shareholder Daniel to split-off part of the entertainment division, why have you refused to do that?

Kazuo Hirai: "I think that the entertainment businessess at Sony are very integral and important part of our company going forward, and to have full control over those entertainment properties means that we are able to take full advantage of the requirement for software content, not just for Sony, but for all the other device manufacturers, where it's really becoming more of conversions, we want to make sure that we are able to take advantage of that insatiable requirement demand for content and that's best leveraged when we have 100% control over entertainment property."

Finally you;re not gonna let that shareholder pressure change your strategy? Is this strategy set in stone?

Kazuo Hirai: "I think that any suggestions, recommendations that are put to us by any major shareholder certainly deserves a lot of attention and discussion, that's exactly what we did with Mr. Loeb's proposal, and we got back to him of what we thought was the best decision, the best way to move the company forward."
