dpreview has passed its judgment
s5 is better than z2 for them
mostly because of the poor performance of the full 20.7MP resolution. i think nobody here will argue with that.
although if you compare the z1 studio shot with the s5's...
i'm confused why the s5 has a smaller photo when it's supposed to be similar in size with the z1's full resolution in terms of width. the z1 and z2's 20MP camera should only be bigger in the top and bottom parts.
i actually find the z1 studio/lab shot better than s5's. i wish they also posted the z2 studio shot.

also, the z1's studio shot there looks better than what gsmarena and phonearena have.
no, i'm not questioning their judgment. i'm just pleasantly surprised with the z1 studio shot.

I said the S5 camera was better than the Z2 along time ago but people said I was being a troll.
Sony needs to sort their shit out, the pixel level quality and flash, HDR, panorama, Image quality, microphone and video are much better on the S5, the stabilisation is the only good thing on the Z2 but they sshould have OIS and maybe even xenon in their phones or at least dual LED, they seriously need to sort their post processing out though.
My opinion is that Sony could easily make their camera phones the best but they choose not to as they don't wanna hurt their camera sales too much. |

I'm really disappointed with dpreview, because it seems their review are only based on their personal opinion.
It would be much better if they provide us with studio shot like the imaging resource comparometer and let our eyes be the judge.
@northmonkey
It all depends on how you define "better".
If you're just talking about pixel level quality in good light I agree with you, but when it comes to overall performace the Z2 is clearly better than the S5.
Doministry have proved in good hands Z2 can produce stunning photos and if you check digitalversus camera face-off you'll see that the flash light on the S5 making your subject look washed out.
If you need more powerfull flash you try iblazer.

Fantastic, Samsung has clearly done a great job with their 1st mobile sensor
I hope the Note 4 uses the same one, seems the Alpha is using it to, yet I remember people around here saying that Samsung had no faith in their own sensor due to some early Note 4 rumors, but clearly they do having used the sensor in two big releases.
Hopefully the Z3 will do a better job than the Z2 and Z1 have done with Sony's sensor.

I had Galaxy S5 for a week waiting my white Z2 arrive.
Tested the camera a lot and it's really good but Z2 was better in 60% of situations. (fast shots and indoors with artificial light/low light specifically)
And i'm talking about -turn on the camera and press the shutter-, nothing more.
With manual adjust this difference grows to 80%+.
I don't like to share pictures here due to the level of childishness and silliness that's reigning here.
Just like to read the comments and sporadically share my opinion.

but it would definitely be great if you could share the actual photos you compared.
talk only becomes silly and childish when it's not backed by facts or proofs, along with the opinions of those who haven't owned nor touched the devices, and those negativity sniffers who suddenly appear to drop a post to amplify everything unfavorable.
(just being consistent since this is the attitude i showed to that guy-who-shouln't-be-named-because-he'll-suddenly-hijack-the-topic-with-his-whining)

I wonder why they didn't include a studio shot for the Z2.. that's really the best way to see what the camera is capable of in terms of overall IQ.
These are the only phones they've tested in the studio
