I need help. I am using a 3UK USB modem on a home pc. My problem is when browsing the internet for some reason I cannot click on links. You know the links you get to confirm your email address or something or a link someone posts on a thread on Esato. When I click on them nothing ever happens. Any ideas. Thanks.

gahhh!!! Im going to start crying soon! I gave up on wireless mice and just bought a wired one, but this wont work either! i get the "Unknown device, searching for driver" business then it tells me i have a usb mouse (thanks for that, really useful!) but installation has failed. It mentions something about INF(?) files then tells me to get lost. I never had any problem with my old wired mouse. DOes anyone have any ideas before I thro my laptop through the window?
Thanks. |

Did you uninstall any driver software that came with that crappy wireless mouse after you gave up on it? Sounds like you have a very nasty driver conflict!
First thing is to go to 'add / remove programs' in control panel and remove everything you can find that is definitely to do with that bloody wireless mouse.
Then, I'd have a look in device manager and uninstall any wireless mouse-like offenders that might still be lurking there.
At this point, you can restart the PC and have another go at plugging your wired mouse in. If it still doesn't work, and it probably won't, then we need to bring in the artillery. Post back here and I'll dig out my old registry toolbox

I never manually installed any drivers for the wireless mouse, but I looked in add/remove and the only thing I didnt recognise was a program named simply "uninstall", there was no publisher but the icon was a green box with a white tick. I got rid of it anyway and the device manager only listed the touchpad under "mouse and other pointing devices".
After the restart the system didnt ask me to search for a driver instead it said the unknown device was ready to use, but obvs. the mouse still didnt work.
I doubt this is related, but I bought an Epson printer last week and since I installed those drivers after I enter my password and desktop loads up it takes AGES before the startup completes. |

I get this problem sometimes on my laptop (like earlier on today). I just restarted my laptop and all was fine. Doesn't happen that often though.

Tried uninstalling the printer drivers? Or, you could try a system restore to before you installed the printer software...

just an update: I tried the mouse in my brothers laptop which never had any wireless mice or the printer drivers installed and get exactly the same messages. The old wired mouse also worked no problem in his lappy so now i am completely confused! |

Does this wireless mouse come with any drivers? If so, have you installed them before you plug the wireless dongle in?
I'm not being patronising, but that is the most common cause of this kind of error?
Failing that, maybe it is just a piece of the proverbial!

No, none of the 3 wireless mice i tried came with any drivers. IIRC windows never tried to download any drivers either. Im just confused as to why the new wired mouse wont work on brothers lappy either when the old one did and the old one was the only mouse he ever used on it. (he prefers the glide pad) |

Goto the manufacturers website and download the drivers for your new mouse.

I know you've probably tried this, but have you tried booting up with the new wireless mouse plugged in instead of plugging it in once it has booted?

yea i did. the wireless mouse has gone now, but i tried every combination going while i had it. As i said before i cant understand why this wired mouse wont work with this or my brothers laptop. The only thing I can think of is if Microsft have been f-ing about with stuff via Update, but surely if that was the case there would be loads more people asking for advice instead of just me! |
