yeh def, there's still a few things that jailbreak users still can't or don't want to live without. For me WinterBoard, SBSettings, basically anything Mobile Substrate related that isn't allowed on stock iPhone's
I actually also missed QuickSMS recently when I had to restore before taking it to the Apple Store. Again, that depends on QuickBoard which depends on MobileSubstrate which depends on jailbreak

I'll be boring and update to the full version when Apple release it.
I remember last year everybody logged on to the Apple site all at once to update to 2.0 and activate their new iPhone 3G's and the server(s) went down. Is that likely to happen again? I might wait a day or two to see if it all works okay - I don't like being a guinea pig and I never download Beta's for that reason.

Hopefully you should be alright, as they really made a boo-boo with that last year, releasing the firmware & the 3G at the same time so there were people trying to activate & update through the Apple Servers all at the same time. At least this time the FW comes out on 17th and 19th (UK) is 3GS release date
@voda lol you've really stuck by qTweeter havent you! Do you not find it clashes with SBSettings at all, as in when you swipe downwards, SBSettings also pops up?

So anyone tempted to upgrade to OS3.0 GM (final build) now instead of waiting? I know it's only 8 days away, but apparently you can install and your UDID doesn't need to be registered to a Dev account. I'm tempted, but think I'll just hold off until the public release, as then the official jailbreak solution will be released as well
Is that the 7A341?
I've downloaded it and think I'll give it a go tonight when I get home
that'll give me a week with it to help in the decision of whether I'll really go with the 3G S

It never quite worked for me lol Kept bringing up sbsettings. Might give it another try-out

@whentheleveebreaks & @masseur let us know the outcome after you've installed the Gold Master. I had really itchy fingers last night, but decided i just love my lockscreen way too much to return to default

from the office, I use GoToMyPC to access my home pc, and it lets me do just about anything as though I was sitting in front of that PC.
One of the few limitations is that there is no replication of the USB functionality on my home pc through to the office pc, so, although I made the decision this morning, and downloaded the firmware, I have to wait until I get home to actually do it.

Haha yeah that'd be awesome if you could plug your iphone in at work and get it to mount on your home computer. I've used gotomypc before, just a trial and found it very good indeed. Did a bunch of video conversions on my home PC whilst sat at work
Gah... i keep thinking about upgrading it NOW! I'm away from the morning of the 17th until 21st so wont be able to install it on release... although it'll probably take a couple of days for the Dev-Team to release their jailbreak anyway

I have a service I pay for annually as its so useful and saves me taking my vaio all the time.
its good for bypassing the office firewall to check on some of the naughties that get posted here, and for watching bay, and collecting and replying to emails as the office don't allow POP3 or SMTP through the firewall.
Like the iphone, its one of those everyday things I just can't live without now

Yeah until you delete them
apologies if this is wildly going off topic...

My office also block pretty much everything, found a sneaky little technique which i found out by using Slandr mobile twitter browser. Now this doesn't display all pages correctly, and some not at all, but sometimes it's good enough to just get the info you need. Basically when 'm.slandr.net' (the only twitter browser that works at work) links to a picture or external sites, it has a mobile prefix of http://google.com/gwt/n?u= before the link, essentially giving the user a 'lite' 'mobile' version of the page. I use this prefix before almost any URL and the site displays

have had a couple of hours to play around with 3.0. So far so good. First off, everything is more snappy, apps tend to open slightly quicker, the Messages app is much much faster, even with the 1000+ texts that are in there. The search screen is ridiculously quick, i think i will use this quite a bit. MMS works as it should, just seems much easier and more intuitive to send picture messages than previous experience on other phones. The landscape keyboards are as good as you would expect them to be.
Overall, an excellent, free update. Loads of little things i keep seeing that are improvements. Also, the find my iPhone function on mobileme works brilliantly.

@RyaN, I'll try that!
@whentheleveebreaks,
great! so just to confirm, its just a matter of pressing the shift key when clicking restore and then selecting the ipsw file and wait for that to finish?
does that also cause all the content to be restored or is that another step I have to do?
