On NITEL, readers of my e-zine will know that I predicted the sack of Pentascope International since mid-2004. The problem is the meddlesome attitude of the Government. Every Minister of Communications sees NITEL/MTEL as their private company. There is no hope for that company until it is sold to a private company and all those NITEL managers retired. @Ihe... send me your GSM number and I will contribute my own tsunami recharge card donation. My current number is 0802-523-7595 (I have been a bored Vmobile subscriber for two weeks now.) |

@coola: What's boring about being on Vmobile? And what happened to your Glo line?

@coolapostle:One of these days Vmobile might not be so boring when either Virgin or Vodacom get their hands on it.

@brix25: I am not quite enthusiastic about Vodacom showing up here again. Virgin would be more welcome. My sentiments, and I believe a significant number of Nigerians agree.

@AYA: When I first got a cellphone I was on MTN and never cared for Vodacom but since joining the network I haven't had much to complain about. Their customer service is excellent and their coverage is broad. Virgin on the other hand don't have experience of running a nuts and bolts network...what they do is lease space from an existing network and just brand their products- they'll soon start operating in SA through a deal with Cell C.

@brix: In truth, I have no experience with Voda, as I suspect most Nigerians don't too. Its just Voda's attitude towards Naija in the past. They have acted more like hawks looking for a kill than people with any real interests in our country. My opinion.

@AYA...the likes of Voda and MTN exploit for capital gain that's the nature of their existence but governments should put strict rules in place for them to keep their lucrative licences.

I am "bored" because there is really nothing to do. U can only call. No info service or SMS-based news update. At least with MTN and Glo, I had the info services and downloads. With Glo I had WAP!!! Vmobile is Boring. But it gave me an idea for a new e-book that will help new subscribers. Maybe @Brix can give me ideas of cool Value-added Services that are popular in SA? We can approach Vmobile and become millionaires eh? Meanwhile Vodacom is also a bidder for our incumbent network NITEL. Then I hear MTN is ALSO in the race! Why is MTN looking for another license??? The plot thickens... |

@coola: you can also browse WAP on Vmobile using same settings on MTN. They also have downloads now as well. Not as boring as it used to be

Can you download from the phone or I have to visit the website? WAP via CSD? Who is the Vmobile WAP gateway provider? Still Mtech? I also thot MTECH used to charge 6k /year? Are they still doing that? |

@coola: Yes, WAP via CSD on MTech's gateway. They stopped that N6k per year thing immediately they started. Just put in the settings & start browsing. Visit www.GoSmartMobile.com for more details on all Nigerian networks & their data capacities, reviews etc.

@coolapostle...Lots of services you can access via SMS...from tv guides, weather and you can also have porn sent to your phone. In SA you get private companies that lease the capacity from Vodacom and MTN and they on the other hand sell premium services to the public...I actaully used to share a floor with one of these companies. check out this site for more info http://www.vodacom4me.co.za/wasp/index_handbook.html
