I have no big issues with satio too. Just only somethings missing from the media player and the fact that i cant use wifi with bluetooth on. No crashes or freezes except on internet web browser that happens on some websites. Of corse there are much more things that could be better for exemple camera pictures, faster menus and boot. I dont know if this is related or not but i didnt installed anything on satio yet. My experience since p800, p900 ... and more recently n85 is that some things including themes and not just only applications can mess with smartphones and some of the problems may happen just because of that. On other thing is to use backups after an update... i only backup contacts and calendar to make sure that the phone is "clean" of everything. |

I usually do the opposite, whack as many apps on there as possible see which conflicts or runs poorly before updating the firmware and cherry picking the apps i really want.

Yes i did that too on my past phones. The only reason i havent installed nothing on satio yet is im too busy and and lazy to look for they right now! But this i think is the best way. First try the phone clean and only then you can say the phone is buggy with many problems or not. Then you can fill with applications, and if somethings go wrong after the update you only pick the good ones. |

Just go to Playnow on your Satio, go to apps, choose top 20, then choose free.
Some good apps appearing almost daily now.

surely SE has been in the phone business long enough not to have overlooked what i would describ as standard features of a modern device, most of what people are complaining about are features not unfamiliar in earlier SE devices, looks to me like they rushed the satio out before christmas without completely finishing the development, i'll bet they where aware of all the issues before it hit the shops and where developing the final release firmware, possibly a move that has backfired |

For themes compatible with Satio you have:
-Zedge (choose N97)
-Mobile9
-Eseth
-Own Skin: Themes + online theme maker (Choose N97)
You have hundreds of them

So besides problem with Wi-Fi, the media player, the web browser, slow menus, poor camera images - it's all absolutely fine.

Apps causing such big problems shouldn't be offered for sale. Likewise, Symbian should build the OS so that a simple app can't cause chaos!
Do apps for the iPhone, BlackBerry or Android cause such problems that you are scared to try anything out for fear of having to do a full reset?
Joe Public aren't keen on adding apps to their Symbian phones as it is, but this just makes it even worse. I must admit that over the last few years, I have stopped trying out free apps to pass the time when I'm bored. I also had to stop doing this on my PC, and it's a shame when there's some excellent freeware and shareware apps out there.
The stuff you pay for should work 100% without fail - yet these days it seems acceptable, even 'cool' to release alpha and beta software to people when you're charging for it.

Mine backs up okay, but experience has shown me that when you restore some backups it can still fail. Obviously the tool won't tell you why so you can fix things! Oh no, that would be far too clever.
Fortunately, all of the things you 'tick' are saved as separate archives, so you can usually restore MOST of the data (and lose settings, contacts, bookmarks or something) but the backup tool isn't something you should totally rely on.
This is on any S60 device by the way. My advice would be to have a backup of your contacts, synchronise as much data as you can over the air or via the PC/Mac and keep copies of the original .SIS files to reinstall if it all goes wrong.
There's also the thought that following a firmware update, it can be better to start afresh and reinstall everything anyway. When the Satio update comes out, I expect I will start from scratch and just restore the contacts/appointments and reinstall the key apps I use.

Yeah I was just about to say that. A plus $500 phone shouldn't have ANY major bugs, let alone a litany of so many. This phone ranks #2 behind the disaster that was UIQ 3 and the P990. What a waste because it looks so good physically. Then again, so did the prom queen from high school....

You're wrong. Previous "disasters" have been just that, because the problems those "disasters" typically illustrated were across the entire product line.
Where as you have hundreds of thousands of satisfied Satio owners worldwide with no problems. Just like me.
Ive got about 5 threads bookmarked now where basically people are just slagging the Satio off. To be honest, they're getting very boring !

Poor camera images? Guess its more the fault of the man behind the camera than the camera itself. What i see around me are all excellent pictures. |

Guess you never really used the N97 in its launch avatar. That was more buggy than a house full of termites.
You've probably never experienced the joy of owning an Omnia HD either. Samsung craptastic FW dev team thinks there's only one country on the planet and that's Italy. Imagine having to flash the ROM just to update the firmware that still hasn't gotten everything sorted out.
I've had the pleasure (!) of forking out $600 for both phones and was treated to a royal course of el-bugginess.
