As maloqs stated, let's keep this thread as a rumours thread.
Technically you're right but we might as well open up '17 rumors thread since '16 is done regarding interesting new phones (we might get some medium spec device before the end of the year, but even that is highly doubtful).
I am very skeptical of MWC, but Sony can deliver a surprise. Z1 was one of the first phones with S800 and was more powerful than its rival the S4 which was powered by the S600. Also Z5P was also ahead of its time in terms of some specs. So there is hope that Sony announces a proper flagship at MWC. I presume S8 will have 4K screen and 6GB of RAM so Sony should follow that. S830 is doable since Sony can announce the phone in March and launch it in late April and by then the S830 could be ready. |

We are probably going to see OIS next year. SD820 still has some over heating issue, thats why Xperia X performance does not record 4k. I guess Sony did not want the samething happening with this years devices just with the last Z-series. My X performance's screen gets warm after playing games, more so than the back cover. And its cpu gets throttled which results in a low 100k score in Antutu. Maybe next things will be better for Sony Mobile. I just hope they enough phones this year to finance next years phones as well as marketing. I love my Xperia X Performance, especially the design and software. Camera is nice, espwcially the selfie one. But i know it could be better. |

This is unbelieveble, Xperia XZ HAS HARDWARE OIS BOTH SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE just stop with whining please.
Second, all Xperia device with software OIS destroy all other device with hardware ois in terms of stabilization , so what are you still complainnig for?

Is there anything that wasn't said already? Probably not, but I still want to express myself.
XZ:
+ I'm glad they don't make the screen any bigger (I'd like 5" even more, but I don't expect it) and the resolution is still enough. Yes, a 2K display might impress the average Joe, while comparing it with the rivals.
+ The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is the usual suspect in the 2016 flagship phones of many manufacturers, so no surprise here.
+ The signature dust and water proofness has to be there and we haven't been disappointed about this matter once again.
+ It's a bit early to form an opinion about the camera right now, but atleast we can say they made the effort of including a new one instead of using an old one.
+ Since the Z2 the battery did get smaller. Fortunately this time it stays the same (vs. Z5) or even improves (vs. X Performance).
+ There is not much to say about the capless USB Type-C. It's a good upgrade and puts them ahead of some competitors.
+ The side-mounted fingerprint sensor in the power button is something unique and it keep the front of the phone simple and clean.
+ The new design is great. Not a revolution, but an evolution and thus it is still very easily recognizable as a Sony phone.
- 3GB RAM might be enough, but it's no improvement. 4GB probably wouldn't be much more costly and it would've been more future proof.
- I don't like the placement of the speakers too much. They should stick to the Z2 and Z5 style, which is much more subtle.
- The bezels are also somehow classic Sony. I don't think the screen-size-to-phone-size-ratio is bad, but it could have been surely better.
As you see I don't have too many negative point to share with you, but at the same time the positive ones are often things, which you could also find in the predecessors or are must-have upgrades for this year, i.e. 2016 flagship phones 101.
X Compact:
+ I wouldn't change a thing about the display, except maybe to increase it to 4.7" (because of the iPhone), but that's it.
+ 3 GB RAM wasn't really necessary, as the display is still HD among others, but I surely won't complain about more RAM.
+ Fortunately the camera carried over from the XZ. With all the effort they put in, an improvement is to be expect. We will know for sure, when the reviews hit.
+ The battery didn't get any bigger, but also not smaller (vs. Z5 Compact). I'll count this as a plus, because with the main flagship it often got smaller with each successor.
+ As mentioned above USB Type-C. Its predecessors didn't really have any competitors, but now with less flagship specs, it would be a small advantage, as it's still not that common.
+ Also as mentioned above the side-mounted fingerprint sensor. I have to say that I'm still using a PIN, so I'm liking this more because of aesthetically pleasing reason.
+ Also as mentioned above the new design is great. It's a good update and continuation of the previous design language.
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 is a disappointment, even if the phone is called X Compact an not XZ Compact. So far there has been only Compacts of the flagship and they are watering down the well-earned reputation.
- No dust and water proofness. This is really a big pity, as those two things are basically synonymous with a Sony phone.
- As mentioned above the the placement of the speakers. I really can't get used to this, the Z5 Compact solution is much nicer.
- Also as mentioned above the bezels. I don't know, if the competition solves it better or if their design language is hiding it better, but it always seems like a controversial point exclusive to Sony.
This doesn't read much differently than my comments to the XZ, but the X Compact is definitely the more disappointing one out of the two, even if the name doesn't suggest a flagship. It's neither the phone we deserve, nor the one we need.

I wonder if the Premium successor is the mystery 3rd device that was 50/50 on being ready in time for yesterday's announcement.
Nodar, please stop posting conjecture as fact. It is confusing to those who don't know you as a perennially full of BS

I was hoping the rumoured XPERIA with SD821/823 would've been it. if Sony doesn't announce Z6P this year, then I expect it to have at least SD830 |

believe me the X dual with 64GB internal memory & 3GB Ram is amazing
and the prices will fall even more from October after the selling of the XZ & X compact start |

I really do believe both X and XZ are great phones. However, since I have a habit of buying a new phone every 3 years or so, I need it to be future proofed as much as possible. That is why I will wait for 4K/S830/6GB RAM phone from Sony. Hopefully the resurrected Z series, the Z6 Premium.
