It has been extremely hush hush about SE. And i dont think PSP or not, a Gingerbread phone with OMAP 4440 proccy is something to play catch up with. |

@badassman all the info i've heard suggests that this will NOT be the psp2 and they said the same thing about the pspGO i think this will be a high end gaming phone. but i agree with you ... if they make it all about the games .. it'll fail as a mobile... i think they are shooting for a happy medium... who knows if they will hit the bullseye or not tho.
i think mobile gaming has come a long way thx to the iphone... not that i own or like iphones i just think a lot more people are into mobile gaming because of it. having a phone with a game pad would be really nice. hope they don't forget to add multitouch this time around although i think it'd have to be a requirement for andriod 3.o
would be really cool to see a full keyboard as well. but i doubt it

the device will go on sale in the second part of 2011 at the price higher than for the similar gaming console (sounds logical, but does not include the subsidies from carriers). SE does not think it will be a mass solution, but rather a niche product for serious gamers, who want a mobile phone with traditional gaming controls. At the moment the 50% of the project is already completed.

In all honesty, I think badassmam has been shooting in the dark for a while now. Almost everything he says is an aggregate of newsbits around the world with personal commentary thrown in to impart a feeling of insider info.
No offense, but I won't be taking his words for granted on this one. It was in the presses a while ago that a proper PSP2 is undergoing testing in the UK for months now and it supposedly has a 4 core cell processor.
That is a whole different project from this and would decidedly have better graphics than a PSPhone would have. |

PSP2 seems to be an interesting device with the specs we have been hearing so far (From wikipedia, it is rumoured to have GPU capability of 532M polygons per second, fill rates in excess of 16Gpixels/sec @400 MHz), but will it still run the Linux OS that the previous models have? It would actually be nice it if runs on Android, kind of like the iPod Touch. Then, SE would release a phone counter part.
I guess if SE and Sony would like to copy the success of iPhone and iPod Touch, then the PSP games must be forever exclusive to PSP and PSPhone (if there's really such device). Android is an open source. Manufacturers using the OS for their devices would easily have access to PSP games if given go signal from Android, which I think SE and Sony will have less power to control. Thus, SE's PSPhone will not be unique and will get increase competition from other Android smartphones. Should SE proceed with the PSPhone, an exclusive agreement with Android is the way to go to secure SE and Sony's interests.

@synn
You're welcome to doubt me but I just saw the device and I can tell you exactly how serious they are about gaming on it but I'll let describe it for you when the time eventually comes

^Could you explain further the games compatibility to other Android smartphones? Are the games exclusive to SE or not? Are the games going to be played using the physical buttons only, or there's some that are not as well? |

(...)The phone is mostly black with some silver highlights, and the gamepad area is white / silver in color.(...)
Looks like SE design but... |

Well it looks like anyone's idea of what a psphone could be I suppose, we already have quite a good idea of what it looks like.

I wish Sony Ericsson kept this phone under wraps until they were ready to announce....now there are about to be months of hype and inflated expectations.
