not difficult for the 'smooth transition'. try using 'feathers' of approx 5px when selecting the part to be blured. |

i agree with expert. i never used the feathers until i accidently placed it on and the theme came out pretty smooth although i think i used only 3px but it all depends on preference and sometimes wallpaper

Ahh - my good old Elfquest theme - the one that won me that weeks contest and one of my absolute personal favorites.
I actually spend alot of time on that one - because instead of just blurring the wallpaper - feathers or not - I masked only the part of the images behind the leafs in the top and buttom and specificaly did not touch the leafs. I deliberately made the leafs a size where they would be bigger than the status and softkeybars so they would also show in the desktop. Masking and working on only the elfgirl but leaving the leafs untouched made a good effect I think - gave it that kinda 3d effect - as if shes looking out from behind the leafs. Besides the fact that its a pretty picture, I think this is one of the reason many people like it - even those that cant tell why its a litle different from most themes. Im glad you noticed the effect I was trying to create
But we cant do that on all themes - it very much depends on the material. Sometimes we just have to go the easy way
Luckily Vlammetje has made so many sweeeet themes - some also with different kinds of effects.
By the way - come to think of it - it was actually Vlammetje who desided that weeks elfquest topic and who pointed me to the place where I found the picture for the elfquest theme - so shes partly to blame for me having that creative fit the night I made that theme

Well, your elf is actually a he. His name is "Cutter" (Skarpegg in Norwegian, I don't remember his Danish name, maybe "Ilder"? "Snijer" in Dutch).

I think I would work in two layers. The original sharp image on the bottom and the blurred one above. Then I would have feathered the blurred image (then you will se your original sharp image appear gradually around the edges). In the end I would merged the layers.
The result should be the desired one. I have to admit that I'm not experienced with Photoshop eiter. I usually use Gimp (http://gimp.org/) because it is free and have similar tools as Photoshop, and even there I'm just a novice.

One more, it seems, my little flame.
A comment to my previous post, by feathering I mean that you feather the edges to transparency so the bottom layer becomes visible trough the upper layer.
For all I know easyer ways might be present in the world of image manipulation.

I decided to do the cartoon theme on one of my favourite childhood series...... but while searching for pics I stumpled upon the original manga and kinda got lost in reading it.....
Well erm.... I am a bit delayed
