are you for real ???
ITS A CAMERA FOR GOD SAKE...AND A (ordinary) CAMERA FOCUS ON THE OBJECT YOU CHOOSE....the background never get sharp in close Macro mode...(do you even know how a camera work ???...have you ever tried a camera ?????
when you focus on a object (in close range) IT STAY FOCUS ON THE OBJECT..(not the background, its impossible...ok !!!
you can buy a more expensive camera who manage focus on both the object and the background, (i have a old Minolta who manage that)....but cell phones cant do that

I bet you already know what I would say about that so no need for me to say it
Your water drop shot is good. I envy you and BestPic. It's a real pain in the *** trying to shoot photos like that without BestPic. My camera phone has Burst mode but it shoots one photo per second so pretty useless for this particular type of photo.

i find it funny how your picking out the cup as bad quality when its a macro shot and its focused on the water drop and tap. I think that is the purpose of blurring out the backround...
Good on you planktagan for giving the camera a shot. You have proven that its not as bad as its made out to be.
And the N95 isnt great either. After using the i-mobile 902 especially. |

because they want to crave out for something bad(as they think of it) to gun down K850's quality. though they are now failing to think radical and logical

Hi, I'm new here but would like to put in my opinion on this topic. First of all I own a K850i but before I bought it I studied a lot of comparison pictures taken with the N95 and decided in my view the K850 had a better image quality, and now I will tell you why IMO that is.
As an amateur photographer I had a look at the images and noted a few things.
1.
As various articles point out the N95 has slightly better colour rendition and contrast, the problem is although it works in quite a few shots a lot of the others are way off, usually way to vibrant, and as someone else noted, slightly cartoony.
2.
The major point for me (as I can change colour casts and white balance in PS) is the softness and noise in the image. Both cameras produce more noise than a proper digital camera (to be expected) and both phones use noise reduction software (NRS) then sharpen the image up (from what I can see in the images). Noise reduction software inherently softens images, due to it removing slight detail as well as noise. The N95 has a lot harsher NRS than the K850, making the images from the N95 slightly softer.
It's worth noting at this point that images taken with the flash on the K850 are usually softer than images without the flash. Why? IMO it is because the ISO (sensitivity of the sensor, the higher the ISO the more noise) is much higher when the flash is used (as would be expected, higher ISO when it is darker) and so has more noise which in turn is remove with harsher NRS.
Once the NRS has done its work on the image the phones then sharpen the image back up again. This is again IMO where the K850 is slightly better, it doesn't sharpen the image as much (and most of the time doesn't have to) so there are very few sharpening artefacts in images taken by the K850, whereas there are lots in most images taken by the N95. (Sharpening artefacts are the little white 'sharp' specks in the images)
After that process the file is then compressed to a jpeg format and saved. Compression will also cause some degredation in the image quality but I can't say how much so will leave it at that.
So IMO N95 better colour rendition but K850 better noise reduction and sharpening so for me the K850 wins hands down.
As for the Cup and water drop, very few normal cameras will be able to focus on both the cup (background) and water (foreground) at once. It's called depth of field, and without going into too much detail about it you would really need a manual camera (like a Digital SLR) to get both in focus. That is nothing to do with the quality of the camera (and IMO the water, which was focused on, is pretty sharp) but the settings used and the fact it is not a professional(ish) camera. If you want to know more information about Depth of field and how it works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field |

Looking the the comparison. K850 photo still sucks. noisy and color is all out...pinkish..pinkish. And I just can't see how K850 has more details when it is all fuzzy. On the K850 photo you can't even make out face of human as it is just a big lump of noisy pixels. On the N95 pict the face is clear.
I dont know what kind of photographer you are. A person with one eye closed can clearly tell that N95 pictures has more details whereas the K850 picts are just fuzzy pixels

he he he....here we go again.
(hopefully) im going to borrow my friend N95 today and take some "real" compare pictures.....this compare pictures stinks
(do you realy think that k850 take so unsharp pictures ?????
i think I/we have proved the opposite allready.
k850 have a much better allround camera.... if you compare the low light/night, flash & indoor pictures (even some outdoor) from N95, they looks worse.....end of story.

yeah. and the one and only full sized pict you posted for your K850 sucks. and dont bother to post comparison photos of K850 and N95. I think those from the websites already clear enough.
