I know infra red is old technology, but its still used day to day by a lot of people.
A lot of people dont have bluetooth on there phones / laptop / pda so they use infra red.
Im a K750I owner & I use the infra red a lot to connect to my work pda & peoples phones that just dont have bluetooth.
It just strikes me of more penny pinching by SE to remove the infra red port from the newer phones. |

same here, i used it only a couples of times in as many years, and it was actually to connect to a very old phone of a friend of mine that didn't have Bluetooth yet.
Don't think IR is much needed anymore, except on smartphones and communicators, for which it's vital to retain any possible connectivity option.
I don't think it's penny-pinching, just making room in the casing for more recent/useful features.
Back to topic, the K770 is IMO a good release, good all-round mid-range camera phone. A decent successor to the K610i which IMO was and still is the most classy SE phone ever released.

I use the infra red port on my K750I at least once a week to transfer pictures to the work pda.
To me a camera phone without an infra red port is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
An infra red port wouldnt take up much space inside the phone or cost much at the design stage either.
Looks like ill be sticking with the K750I for a while yet. |

It's an interesting handset the K770 you have to think though it does seem remarkable similar specifications wise to the T650. Though some would regard the T650 as having a more unusual look because of the keypad, for me I still prefer it's design overall to that of the design of the K770. |

don't be fooled. this doesn't even match the k800i. build quality? looks cheap, probably uses cheap plastics too. camera? my bet says it's below the k800i in quality. screen? probably a clone, with the same specifications but of inferior quality and 'cheaper' looking.
i mean, look at the k550. there's no way SE is going to compromise k800i cos' it's still a flagship model up there with k850. |

Dude, this phone is for people who want a stylish phone with a relatively good 3.2MP camera. Its camera lacks some of the high-end cyber-shot phones' features. However, the phone's housing compromises its camera. So will its price, presumably. |

See SE are penny pinching again, no infra red port on the K770I
Another new SE phone thats no good to me because they remove a basic feature.
Everybody still doesnt have bluetooth, some people still need there infra red connections.
See the new K850I is infra red free as well
Come on, even low-end phones have bluetooth. infrared is not useful anymore |

This is a futuristic tend. The IR shall disappear as the bluetooth is gaining more range. We know that it must be like that. The IR had its time, now is BT's. That's why is doing it this way. There you have the K770.

That black version looks damn sweet. I wonder why SE didn't announce a black version too
Edit: hey, the phone from mobileburn.com is really brown, not black. Take a look at the pics taken from other angles.

A phone without an infra red port is totally useless to me so I wont go out & waste my money on one.
Ill be sticking to my K750I then with its handy infra red port & led torch.
Theres also plenty of low end phones still for sale that DONT have bluetooth, they only have infra red. |

I like the black version too. People might stuggle to open the lens cover if their hands aren't completely dry, there should reall be a grip / lip on there, though overall the design get a thumbs up from me.
