These are adjusted a bit for better exposure, but I do that to most photographs anyway. The P1i is nothing like a "real" camera, but quite fun and handy, especially the macro feature. |

Great shots mate. Especially the last one.
I still can't believe how P1i takes great macro shots. Light and focus adjustments are great.

The biggest difference between AF and non AF camera phones is the DOF (Depth of Field)
If you take a look at the photos of the P1i posted above, there are certain parts of the photo which are in focus, and other parts which are out of focus.
The non-AF cameraphones, all (or most) of the photo is in focus already. AF cameraphones have this option if they switch off AF in the menu.
This is more evident with subjects that are closer (macro shots as well) than with landscape shots, or subjects at a distance (such as your skydiver and palmtree)

@jplacson
The depth of field (the depth in focus) is smaller the closest the focus is. The depth of focus is logarithmic. The further the distance, the larger area is in focus.
My Nikon took photos at 2.5cm of distance from the lens, and the depth of focus was only a couple milliliters depth, all the rest was out of focus.
On the opposite direction, most photos after 30+ meters distance are mostly indistinguishable from infinite focus. |
