I totally agree that this (P1) is no replacement for P990. They are too much alike. We'll have som patient and wait for the P2.....

I still don't get what all the hyps about g is. In my house B works a damn sight better than G - I always get MUCH better range and MUCH MUCH better response. Although, there are 13 computers in my house sharing two wired and one wireless network.
When u have B/G devices connected to wifi-G network, the thru-put of the entire wifi network dropped to only 11Mbps. If you only have G devices the thru-put can go up to 56Mbps.
Some wifi zones/hotspots purposefully dont run their wifi network in mixed mode (i.e. disable support for B-devices) because it slows down the entire network and reduces the range of the wifi.
It is not about the phone has only wifi-B standard since the phone can never achieve 11mbps anyway. It is about impact of B-only devices have on others.

@mib1800
I get your point! Why putting ancient wifi b? Why not just b/g? How much it cost to upgrade from b to b/g? Im sure it will cos under $50
Stingy, profit sucker!

I still say that a true "replacement for the M600" wouldn't have a camera, and wouldn't match and exceed the current P series on every point - that's not what the M600 was ever about. The M600 was a relatively cheap messaging phone aimed at the corporate market - the P1 is a relatively expensive flagship model aimed at pretty much everyone. That makes it something else - more obviously, it makes it a replacement for the P990, on however an interim basis.
I think what gets me about this ongoing argument is the assumption (on the part of people that have never used the M600 or the P1) that the M600's form factor is inferior to the flip design, and therefore any proper flagship is going to have a flip. As anyone who's used the M600 can tell you, that's not the case. The M600's keyboard, combined with the usability tweaks to UIQ that the P990 entirely missed out on, completely replace any need for a flip; and of course they also reduce the bulk and weight of the phone. And of course the M600 Qwerty is actually much easier to use than the P990's "full" keyboard, as any that have used both will attest.
The M600 was unashamedly a "lesser" phone than the P990 on features, lacking the camera (deliberately) and wifi, but it was a much greater phone on usability, pocketability, and ergonomics, and that's where the P1 will shine also. I sincerely hope that SE now abandon the flip design, and concentrate their efforts for the "6th generation P" on another M600/P1 style phone - otherwise you'll all be blindly going backwards on form factor, not forwards, and I for one will be sticking with my P1.

simple math. P1 has 128MB RAM, P990 has 64MB.
P990 has roughly 18MB available after bootup, i.e. it uses approx. 46MB.
if P1 uses about the same, given similar hardware specs and memory consumption, it will have 128-46=82MB RAM available after bootup.
So roughly 4x as much RAM as the P990's 18MB
Just restarted the P1i I'm using and it had 76.1MB free memory.

I've found the camera to be a little inconsistent, so haven't tried using it alot. I've got a pic I took at a wedding over the BH weekend in Scotland. I'll dig it out and post it up later today hopefully.

I watched a few music videos I've encoded, there were a few Nike football adverts on it as well. Quite impressed by the playback.
