New firmware for the W950i |

for some reason i am unable to access update via the pc suite, it says the update service isnt installed, but it is.
i keep getting a bubble popping up in the bottom right corner (where all the taskbar icons are) saying that one of my usb devices has malfunctioned. managed to click on it, and this is what came up (SEUS continued running at the same time.

are there any specific drivers i need to download and install coz apparantely nothing on the cd supplied with the phone is suitable |

It is normal to get that message i get it all the time with both the p990 and w950 and seus does continue to update! (or at least i would if there were an update available!)

The latest firmware is as follows?
Ph: R9EA001 Bt: R3A01 Org: R4A11 Cda: R4A07
I checked mine and it shows that I have.
Ph: R9C001 Bt: R3A01 Org: R1B01 Cda: R2A02
My w950i is unbranded.
I tried to update using SEUS (both English US and UK) version and still get a message that I have the latest version.
It took a while to get used to the UIQ as I was a k750i user previously. But the phone crashes a lot, especially in Walkman mode. HELP!
Any suggestions??

Ignore the last post. I look back at the thread and see I'm in same boat as
MrPlant.
I too have a branded /29 version. Carphonewarehouse strikes again.
I assume that I should unbrand and then run the SEUS update.
But will it stop crashing!?!?!

ok so i've got my W950i i just last week and right when i got it, i did the firmware flash for the phone. I cant really remember what the firmware update was after the flash but all i can remember is that it said "world /2". I know it flashed to a new firmware because the phone did a reset and i lost all my contacts and stuff which i had just transfered from the sim card.
Now i have been runnin into another problem. USB PROBLEMS:
I've been doing some research on this forum board and a few others around the net and it seems like everyone is having problems with USB sync with the PC suite software; regardless if its the one from the supplied CD in the W950 box (V1.2.14) or downloaded from SE website (V1.2.15). let alone, its a nightmare just trying to get it to work with windows xp sp2.
Regardless if i connect the W950i with 'fast mode' or 'normal mode' i still get this error on the lower right hand corner saying USB malfuction. I've tried every way to get this thing to sync so that i can check for another firmware update and i'm not able to do so. When i do the update, it does everything that many of you have been experience...just reboots and loops over again. You find yourself holding down that damm C button for like 3 minute while you have no idea that i just keeps restarting itself. Main reason to believe is that there is no USB device attached to the computer when its doing the firmware flash.
first things first: uninstall PC suite and reinstall again. ...no work! Then i tried pinpointing the "unknown usb device' to the appropriate driver folder on the supplied cd....no work!
I've tried uninstalling the USB Root hub and uninstalling anything USB related on my computer via device manager. I also went into the registry in windows xp and did this registry hack to have the USB not power off ( i found this somewhere around this forum board) and reinstalling my chipset drivers for my motherboard and it still wouldnt go. I got fed up with the whole USB thing so i decided to format my computer with a clean install of windows xp sp2 and no go. I have another computer that has Windows Vista ultimate and even then it still says the USB Malfunction error on the lower right hand corner. oh and also a new DCU-60 USB cable wasnt the issue either as i've tried 2 brand new ones. However after all this, the phone still works fine, dialling calls, accessing the net via GPRS, checking messages, creating tasks, listening and watching movies and mp3s. .....But no USB support!
...so now i'm giving up on the phone and returning it. I think i'm gonna stick with the bigger brother P990 and sacraficing the slim and sleek design of the W950 for a more robust and well-developed cell phone that i can rely on. Hell!, i think that just buying a 4gb memory stick for the P990 would be just as good as the W950i internal memory. On top of that, its removable and can easily be replaced if it malfunctions.
This phone has made me weary of sync'ing any phone with USB to a windows xp computer. I hope that not all SE phones are like this and i also hope one day that SE fixes this USB issue. otherwise the world will see may bricked and useless W950 phones without mp3's |

i got a question for everyone. you all know how we are having these problems with the volume right. now my w950i is '3' branded. i had the same problem with my k610i which was also '3' branded. now the other day i was curious to see if the k800i had the same volume problem. i tried it and it had no problems with the volume what so ever, however this was voda branded.
My point is. why has the k800i got normal volume when it came out after the k610i but before the w950i. is this volume problem got something to do with '3' branding? |

fenoui - If you are in the same boat as me, may I suggest you look into contacting the SE_Unlock guys... I am waiting until next week (payday) then will contact them.. I have the advantage of staying locally (Edinburgh).... The phone is always rebooting itself to "optimise memory" or something - great when it crashes when you are on the "killer app" (to borrrow Steve Jobs's phrase from last week!)...
Once your CDA is changed, you should get more frequent updates from SEUPDATE service... Our CDA seems to be the worst to have...
To everyone having USB problems...
I had been getting a message onscreen saying USB port failed or something along those lines - USB fast mode worked fine but never the normal mode that lets you sync your contacts/do backups etc.
I reinstalled windows - same.
The other night I tried doing a firmware update - as I plugged the phone in - the exact same second it (my pc) froze entirely - mouse everything - ok I thaught - bad luck - I'll do a hard reboot....
Nothing.. No graphics output - monitor went into standby. No post on BIOS. Computer was fried...
I make and build PC's so am well used to faultfinding..
I was very very lucky indeed - "only" my motherboard got fried - cpu, graphics card, ram, drives, psu etc. all fine..
what happened?
Same as what happened to me around 1 1/2 years ago I reckon..
Strange that I recall I was plugging in my old W800 at the time that one fried the board........
What was it?
STATIC!
It either came from my clothes along the phone and into the USB cable (I was holding the phone into my chest to press the C button at the time), or I must have brushed past those small pins as I plugged it in with my thumb or something..
I do tend to carry static on me especially at this time of year with the hot humid indoor air... ripe for static......
My point? Well it cost me £54.99 for a new motherboard...
Please touch something grounded before you plug in your phone to the USB sockets.. eg. a cold water tap or metal edge of a radiator...
You might just save yourself some expensive PC repairs....
Anyone else suffered this same fate as me?

I meant to ask this earlier...
Say I am playing music on the walkman or watching videos and someone calls me, the phone only lets out a small pathetic beep noise whilst the content continues to play..
Even my first generation walkman W800i managed to mute the music/video and break into the full set ringtone..
My question is a two parter..
1/. What is the deal with this - a phone's killer app is the phone - it should have priority and ring!!!!!!!!!!
2./ Any firmware version out there that actually bothers to fix this?
my opinion for what it's worth is that due to the way this phone is programmed - they will never bother to fix this... be to hard for them...
Same with the EQ manual preset that should be in there.....

My phone is on the way home..
I just spoke with the guys and told me that everything is OK, volume is OK and I was lucky enough cause the new Generic FW was out the moment my phone arrived..
So for everyone out there:
FW R4A07 is launched!!!!
Since I get the phone back I'll write a small review about the volume and the new FW's impressions!!
