Joel80,
Thanks for the heads up.
Looks like you also have to forgo the Sim security pin input if you want the P990i to restart automatically. |

Yes.. but that isn't anything I will do.. But for those who want that there is a setting that makes the phone ask for pin-code when a new sim-card is inserted. A phone-lock... to make the thieves have a little more problem with the gods.

I've been "at it" for the passsed day or so on my p990i and alot of the problems I had last night with the gui i've overcome. The whole menu system is a bit different compared to the p910i but it's not too difficult to get used to.
When I tried to transfer my contacts etc from my p910i the p990i just hung. So instead I transferred data from outlook.
Unfortunately SE haven't released any 64 bit software so I'm using a laptop I got out of the loft last night instead of proper computer. Haven't quite figured out how to get the auto update thing running. But our vodafone business manager has said that he'll sort it out once the phone is out of it's exclusive vodafone period in a couple weeks time.
There's a huge difference between borrowing a mates (in my case cousin's) phone for a few hours (three for me) and actually owning the machine yourself. The worry you get when wanting to tweak around with settings is removed when it's your own. Two days in and I'm really glad I purchased the phone. It's only crashed twice on me and I've been really fooling around on it. I found that uninstalling alot of the stuff I didn't need helped performance alot. Also installing to memory card whenever possible helps.
I pinched my brothers psp hard drive/battery peripheral which connects through ms duo slot, and it worked. Obviously it's a truly cumbersome idea and shouldn't entertain as a solution to anything (except perhaps weight lifting or something). I did notice a bit of performance lag though whilst trying this.
In our household we have a panasonic tv with sd card slot. Basically you can record what you're watching on tv to the sd card in mp4 format. I transferred a previous recording from the sd card via pc to the 512mb ms duo pro card i have, and it worked. The quality and flow of picture was just like how when we play it on pc.
It's a good phone (and I don't mean to moan) but I was expecting more really. |

also annoying, if you accidentally cancel an SMS, it asks you to save to draft yes or no, but no way you can cancel it, you have to save to draft to save your message and reopen it if you want to continue |

I agree. That is annoying. And also if you have written an SMS that is a bit too long it will ask you if you want to send it as two regular SMS's. If you want to shorten it down it's not possible since you only have Yes and No to chose from. If you select Yes, it will send it. If you select No it will just vanish. :-/

One of the more obvious changes that I've noticed with organizer R3B01 is how fast the golf game starts, and how fast it is when started.

| if you go to phonebook and for example you want to look up a contact starting with W, it will look up a contact starting with 9, click again 9 button and now it shows W but too late, the 9 is already there so no contact will be found. press the return arrow, redo the same, now the 9 will not appear but the W directly if you push the 9 button. |
|
That can still happen in organizer version R3B01 from time to time, if you press a key too soon after getting to the phonebook in FC mode.

| mp3s cannot be played when selecting ringtones, I do not understand why since my p910 does this without any problem. |

I can select MP3's with organizer R3B01. Never tried it with earlier firmware, so I don't know if that was a common issue.

| how to do a multiselect of sms'es to delete them? I have to open each one and then the option to delete them is present! |
|
When the flip is open you should normally see checkboxes before the SMS's. Just check those you want to delete and press Del on the keyboard. You should also have an option in the menu to delete, but in some cases that option is not available, but the Del key should still work. If the flip is closed you can select "more" and then find "select" in the menu. Once you have made a selection, the left softkey will show "select" or "unselect" so you will not have to enter the "more"-menu for every selection.

| battery life is 1 day if you are connected to BT in car for 4 hours, called for max 30 mins, played quadrapop for 20 minutes and just used the phone 10 minutes to browse through menus... also disappointing IMHO compared with P910 |
|
The battery life on my phone almost doubled up after I turned 3G off. Most of the time I'm not in need of it, but it's still a pity that 3G should be such a battery consumer.
I hope you will be able to update the firmware soon, because I think it will solve many of your problems.

I am not sure if this is a bug or not, but I am really annoyed by this one.
There are moments where my phone says "Only emergecny calls only" out of the blue. Other times, I have five bars, full signal, but still whomever calls me is only getting my voice mail. If I switch to flight and tne to phone, the phone registers and works fine. Same if I do a new search. I only the the GSM network available, and so I only selected the GSM on the Module Networks menu.
If I leave the phone a Manual selection of the network, it will say very often that the prvious network is not available anymore and if I want to do a new search. But this is not going to work ever, since I do other things than just to stare at the phone a see when it goes off the network.
I am on Cingular and got a 3G card from them, even though it does not work on the 3G due to different bandwidth. I called CS, and aded the new IMEI. It did not seem to help a bit. Do I need to switch back to a regular GSM SIM? I had a P900 pior to this one and it gave me few if no problems on the Cingular network.
UPDATE: Since I added the IMEI to my account, it seems that I have no more issues. It must have been that avery time I was switiching between towers, I needed to re-register. With the actual IMEI all the validations I guess pass just fine. Maybe it's a Cingular feature

I noticed that while surfing via GPRS, any incoming call goes straight to voice mail. Is that a feature? I hope NOT !!!! And go figure, it's not happening all the time...

After upgrading to R7A001 , I see that some bugs have already been fixed.
A couple of bugs still remain and I think these weren't mentioned here before except for one.
1) Bluetooth headset HBH-PV700 keeps on disconnecting after some time.
If disconnected and if my phone rings, sometimes it automatically connects to my phone, sometimes it just won't
2) When you call someone, and if his/her phone is busy, P990i will prompt "User busy re-try ?". Once I press yes, P990 will keep calling him/her until his line is no longer busy. Once the line is no longer BUSY, the P990 should make a warning sound so that I know other party is not busy anymore and I should be speaking with him..... Now it just connects to the other person without any sound warnings . P800/900/910 all made the warning sounds!!!
3) Above Re-trying function does not work very efficiently, sometimes it just gets stuck and never tries to call again.
3) On FC and FO mode while speaking on the phone, there is no way you can turn into ACTIVITY MENU in the Task manager. It's never Highligted !!
4) There is no way, you can turn on the phone speaker before you start talking to other party.
5) Strange enough, In FC or FO mode, once you click Task Manager sign, the ACTIVITY menu does not work. This only happens if the task manager program is already not running in the backround. If the Task maneger is already opened and running on the back round, the Activity Menu works fine. Once the Tas Manager program is ended, the useage of Activity Menu is useless. It's hard to explain try it yourself.
6) If you saved a contact's phone number as a FAX NUMBER, the phone will not let you call that number at all. Some people use their faxes as their phones as well.

One more bug ...
7) When you receive a MMS message, when the Flip is CLOSED it plays the video file at FULL SCREEN mode, even though the "play full screen" box is unticked !!!!!

another bug found this morning
recurring alarm goes off
I press DONE and not SNOOZE assuming it won't re-ring...
guess what, every 5 minutes it started re-ringing!
I had to go after 4 times into time app to switch off alarm to stop it from ringing every 5 minutes, I could not figure out how to stop it from snoozing, since the GUI did not do what I told it to!
Noticed too with FO the DONE & SNOOZE buttons are swapped, maybe the labels but not the function behind it are swapped in FC ?

the nightmare goes on:
now the backlight won't switch off despite being on auto
I have to lock keys and push a key afterwards to bring up the unlock message, only then the backlight will switch off
that may explain why the battery lasted previously only 1 day, because this sucks all energy within hours !
checked again this afternoon SE update service, but it still stubbornly says I have the latest version.
so I guess there is nothing left but return the phone and buy some other brand or continue using my p910
the p990 is a HUGE disappointement for me.... |

We are all talking here about the bugs of P990, how do we know our findings are sent to SE ? Are we talking about bugs just amongst ourselves, or is someone sending these feed back to SE ?

Hello,
Ive posted this in another forum but I thought you guys may be able to help.
I seem to have two problems with my 990i received yesterday via vodafone online. I appologise in advance for this long post but hope someone can help me.
Firstly if I click on calender from the today page the phone crashes saying busy even when no other apps are open. I have to close in task manager to close calender app to use the phone. If I shut down and on again its ok but I cant do this every time.
Secondly I still can't connect to the internet via wifi, unless I go through the Vodafone Internet group account.
In order to make it clear I feel I should spell it out.
The group accounts I can choose from are
Business email
Internet
Vodafone internet
Vodafone Mail incomming
Vodafone Mail outgoing
Vodafone Wap
When I set up the wireless, it scanned and found my wireless Lan,
(Authentication is open and network is set to infrastructure.)
I set my WEP key and I add it to group account called "Internet" from those I have listed above.
My W.Lan has a Gold padlock and star by it.
My globe and my antenae are on, and I'm connected when I try to open a page it tries by default to open via Vodafone internet, I scroll to Internet and click connect and it tells me
COULD NOT LOCATE REMOTE SERVER
If I dont scroll and connect to the default Vodafone internet my page comes up.
One of the main reasons I wanted this phone was to surf on a wireless network. If Vodafone has stopped its customers from using this facility, the phone is going back and they can stick it where the sun don't shine and I'll wait for it to come out on O2.
Thanks. |

another PC related bug:
latest connection software from SE site
p990 over docking station connected - all works ok
backed up contacts - ok
reflashed firmware (actually said it was latest but did flash it anyway hoping it would not be the same - but it was the same after all)
restore contacts - p990 switches off and XP SP2 bluescreens (SE driver zebrsce.sys)!
reboot pc - p990 switches on and XP SP2 bluescreens again!
reboot pc - now all works again, until you unplug your p990 - BSOD again!
What kinda crap did SE release? |

@Dirkies
It must be something to do with your XP system, I had up uploaded to newest FW three times I also restored my settings 3 times, and it worked on all 3 of them.
