The USA don't actually have to win to get to the next round, its best if they do but if they don't its not impossible. For eveyone in Group E has 3 points apart from the USA, if Italy beats the Czech Republic thats Italy finishing with 6 points and Czech Republic finishing with no more than 3. If Italy beat Ghana by 4 goals then that puts the USA at 2nd place and through to the next round on goal difference... But yeah its best if they win tonight lol
Ohhhh USA 2 - 1 Italy disalowed!
Its a surprisingly close game...

Or if USA manage a draw tonight, Italy beat Czech Republic next last group game and USA beat Ghana they would be through to the 2nd round.

^ Who's that?
USA did it, providing that Italy beat Czech Republic, USA can get to the 2nd round with a win against Ghana...

Just lost 50 quid because Italy couldn't beat 9 Yanks... Arghhhh
Wasn't expecting the Ghana win either, they played very well. Hoping Brazil V the socceroos wil be a good game...

Although I don't want to disregard the Czech Republic, it is likely that Italy will beat them, but it would seem that 2nd place in Group E will be decided by the Ghana vs USA game, its between them two! Unfortunately one of them in the second round will almost inevitably face Brazil lol
But if Italy don't win against Czech Republic... Italy might not even make it to the 2nd round!
@ london-uk... and thats a prime example why we shouldn't bet! lol at least not on something as unpredictable and surprising as football.

ITALY 1 - 1 USA
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/[....]all/world_cup_2006/4853182.stm
"Italy ended the night top of a very tight Group E, one point ahead of Ghana and the Czech Republic, prior to next week's showdown with the Czechs. The USA kept their hopes of qualification alive after playing almost the entire second half with one man less than the Italians."

interesting match. 1-1, there were many red cards, bad fouls (di rossi), good defending, good shots and other stuff. although italy sucked it was still a good match imo

Let me rephrase that. With a tie, the USA cannot advance on their own. Each other team can. So the US has a.) win their game by a good margin and b.) rely on the Italy - Czech game for a favorable result. Either way it will be a tough one. They played well today, but not smart.

The current group looks like this:
Team - Points
1. Italy - 4
2. Czech Republic - 3
3. Ghana - 3
4. USA - 1
Providing that Italy beat Czech Republic, all USA have to do is beat Ghana, even if its only by 1 goal, if doesn't matter what the score is as long as USA win. That will mean the group will finish like this:
1. Italy - 7
2. USA - 4
3/4. Czech Republic/Ghana (Depends on goal difference)
Only if Italy draw with Czech Republic will USA need to worry about goal difference to get through to the next round.
Both games are on at the same time... It looks quite easy for USA to get through to the 2nd round, but Ghana will be no push overs and they too will be fighting to get to the 2nd round.
If Italy beat Czech Republic and Ghana beat USA the group will finish as so:
1. Italy - 7
2. Ghana - 6
3. Czech Republic - 3
4. USA - 1
Hope that clears things up...
