Any idea what is the biggest capacity of M2 can K800i support? 4gb? |

It is said that K800 supports cards up to 4GB... But it should work fine with 8GB one too. The 4gb and 8gb cards have the same filesystem so there is no reason why it shouldn't work with 8gb one...
P.S. I think someone tried using K800 with 8gb card... I think it worked well, but the only 2 "problems" were that the phone didn't show the free memory correctly (but was using it as it should be) and the media player tracks listing was going too slow...

Thanks for confirming. I'm looking at a 4gb card. 8gb will probably be too slow and lag too much for a K800. |

The phone will work OK. You will lose speed in reading tracks in the media player only

why is it so hard to know the capacity a phone can take? you'll get different capacities from different sources. initially i heard my p990 had a 2 gig cap. now i hear its 4! i've even seen a site that said 8! cant the phone manufacturers give the capacities on thier web sites? |

the trouble is that capacities are given by SE at time of launch based on what is available at that time.
however these days you can be sure that SE are not placing artificial limits on their phones so if it supports 4gb you can be sure it will support 8gb and larger
most phones support fat32 and therefore fit the above category but only a few low end models still support only fat16 and therefore only support up to 2gb

The most common limit of fat16 partitions is 2GB. P910 uses fat16 hence the 2GB limit. However Windows xp can format fat16 partitions to 4GB, but will only be readable by other WinXP devices. This may be where the confusion comes from.
EDIT: Oops, I just noticed he was talking about P990 In that case it will without a doubt support 4GB (and higher)
K800 can use up to 32GB (the memory addressing limit of the memorystick architecture). As far as speed goes there is no difference. What some notice as "slowness" is simply the fact more filenames need to be read into memory. Example, an 8GB (my K800 uses 8GB currently) card may contain say 5GB of music in one folder (as is the case in my example). It will take the phone a considerably longer time to load the list of files into memory compared to a folder containing only 1GB of files. This is true regardless of the total size of the card.
As far as performance goes there is no difference. Equivalent videos for example play just as smoothly on a 2GB card compared to a 8GB card.
BTW, 8GB card memory size is read correctly on my K800.

I just bought a sony m2 for my k800. And it sucks. File transfer is so slow. But I've only tried this using file transfer with my phone connected to the USB. I havent tried putting it into a card reader though.
Will it make a difference? |
