Well said Govi.

The reason I expected BT v2.0 is because of the bandwidth. v1.2 doesnt support multiple connections; I dont count having a static headset connected but not on a call and sending a photo from/to phone/pc. Multiple connections is having a voice call via BT while sending a file from PC to phone, and also bieng able to pair another phone all simultaneously. Furthermore it would guarantee us of stereo headsets. WiFi still isnt everywhere - at least here in Canada, even in a big metropolis like Toronto.

I still think this device offers more than meets the eye; and we'll all know when the phone actually launches. Others may want MS Mobile 5 - even me of a specific design - but nothing even compares of the elegance of this device or even has 2MP cam (not even the MS Mobile 5 flagship device like the JasJar). The only phone that comes close is the upcoming Nokia N91 with its built in HDD; but that can fail. HDD in mobile phones is unproven - and I'm worried about fragmentation. This is where the debut of 4GB MS Duo Pro will shine at launch of this device.

For those long term users of p910/p800 dont jump ship. If you could live so long with those devices then you'll be in heaven with this model.

I'm not jumping ship... I'm just skipping this model. The keyboard placement really got me. It looks too much like a Treo... ugh. I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting this phone, it's got the best features in any single device out now... it just isn't for me, and I've stated my reasons already.

For UMTS services, I think I'll just get an SE GC85 card and pop it into my laptop.

Here go some shallow observations:

No BT light... Just one led on the upper right corner and I suspect that's for network. Damn I love the blue light on my P910!

And what the hell is with the weird 3G/GPRS icon? They put a G over the signal bars instead of the blue GPRS triangle or maybe instead the 3G icon. Not that the current SE 3G icon is spectacular, but that "G" is plain stupid and ugly.

The P990 is so ugly.
Not as i expected,
it looks like the N70 crossed with the P900.
And it should of had the QWERTY keyboard on the flip not screen, coz now its even bigger!
i am very dissapointed, i have to say the P910i is way better (in looks)
if anyone agrees please reply to this.
i am just saying it is a very big dissapointment for SE!

To clarify, Nokia are launching the new N-Gage this week in Barcelona, and then at the start of November it's the Mobility Conference, also in Barcelona, where there will be some new products announced (but not released!) including some new Nseries handsets and the rumoured 9300i (9300 with WiFi).

I don't think there will be any shocking surprises, but Nokia are pretty good at keeping secrets these days, unlike Sony Ericsson. I think the fact that people are more interested in SE products recently, rather than 'yet another Nokia' plays a part in why there are more SE leaks than anything else though! I also think SE help with some of the leaks too, a trick used by other companies for years.

Let's consider that Nokia are rarely first with anything. Why should we expect them to be producing a 4 megapixel cameraphone or something tiny with a HD? The N91 doesn't count, it was more a proof-of-concept than anything else, and I'd be amazed if its ever released in its current guise (too big, slow, no autofocus camera and with the old S60 screen resolution).

Sure, when they adopt something properly, they do it well - and produce it on 101 different variants, but over the years they've always lagged behind other companies. Nokia became too mass market and less interested in being first with everything.

They weren't first with dual band, tri band, proper IrDA data, colour screens and they didn't support Bluetooth for ages, put a memory card slot on their first Series 60 phone or think Communicator users might want GPRS! There are plenty of other examples.

They were (almost) first with things like SMS-MO, data cards and changeable covers, plus they created a whole new high-end premium line that even Motorola with their MicroTAC/StarTAC/V-series couldn't match. They've not always been perfect and have disappointed people time and time again, especially when they had their spell of making ridiculous keypads that made some phones unusable.

Nokia are now getting back on their feet, but let's stop assuming that companies like Sony Ericsson should always watch what the competition are doing. Remember the T39, the R520 and the T68? These all got Nokia on the run. Now the K750 is perhaps one of the most popular handsets on sale today, only beaten by the V3 RAZR (and that's only for its looks). Nokia get the market share by pure volume and the reputation it has for having the best UI..

cell phone will definately...gonna make SE on top...

its hardly gonna do that now is it i doubt it will even sell half as much as the k750.
its a niche product for a small sector of the market if it sells more than imate and other competition then it will be doing well.
as for looks there subjective i can honestly say subjectivly it loks like the bastard child of a treo and some nokia ( which model number i can remember) but some people will love its looks

This is your friendly Esato reporter at the Smartphone show in London...

I've just finished at the show and I am impressed by the P990 styling, and the new UIQ interface is a vast improvement on the tired old version.

You guys are gonna love this one!

There are still lots of problems which required the two different guys I spoke to, to have to reset the device, so its just as well its not available for a while yet.

I have lots of live pics but probably cannot post them until this evening.

anyway, I'm off to work now so I'll check in again when I get there

Maybe you shouldn't clarify, if you don't know. Like I said, just wait for tomorrow (12th) and NMC in the beginning of next month.

As I previously stated, the P910i DOES support MULTIPLE bluetooth connections using v1.2...try it! I find it highly unlikely that the P990 won't do so! Anyway, it may have v2...who knows?!
