Yeah its pretty bad! I mean, why should I pay to hear the message from someone who called me?! I am only on a prepaid account, so data rates are extremely high (I tend not to use it at all) at a rate of about $10/Megabyte (way, way, way overpriced). But carkitter is more into the data side, having set himself up so that his home-phone, cellphone, home internet connection, etc., are all incorporated into one Vodafone plan which I believe he gets at a decent cost. He probably gets some discount for that though!
I seem to remember a year ago there was a report that NZ call pricing was among the highest in the world! And one person on Esato (who I believe was South African) who moved to New Zealand recently told me that Vodafone actually told him that they just charge whatever they want to charge, just because they can! It's a bit of an insult to us New Zealanders really, but what can we do?!
@amawanqa: Yeah I've watched a bit of the cricket recently. It's been great! But I missed today's game, I'll look forward to catching some highlights hopefully tonight! I wouldn't have thought you'd get coverage of a NZ vs. England cricket match!

Yeah, exactly why I don't use it! Like I said, that is only on prepay where they don't expect anyone to use data anyway. If anyone were to use data in NZ with their phone, I think they'd know to go on a plan!
Plans make it a lot cheaper, but still more expensive than most other data providers I think. I am not sure of the costs on a plan so I couldn't say for sure what its like!

@ M-O,
I now live in the UK, hence the coverage. My 'roots' are still very much in SA, though. You wanna check out that highlights package; that was one of the most thrilling ODI games for quite some time.
BTW, congrats on your new Havana Gold W910i! Love that exclusive colour on the new Vodafone handsets.

Looks like Blu-Ray is winning the HD War...

Sony must be relieved that the pendulum's not swinging the same way as the VHS-Beta war a few decades ago.

Wow, the Xperia X1 runs on the new, yet-to-be-announced WindowsMobile 6.1.
Pics and article in here:

This should get Gucci's attention:
'520 MHz CPU used along with the Qualcomm 7200 chipset, the 128MB of available RAM and the 1500 mAh battery.'
Those specs were mentioned when the phone was announced, but it's great to see them verified on this live prototype. Finally a bril CPU; should keep Dogmann quieter for a while.. and that battery capacity seems impressive, unlike the N96's offering...
Still, the N96 and new iPhone lead the way in the on-board memory specs wars. (16 gig).

Yeah I guess I am going to have to catch the highlights of that game on the news tomorrow! I missed it and it's now very early Thursday morning here! So I guess proper highlights are over by now. So you'd still support South Africa if they played England?
Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm really enjoying the new phone and I love the colour too. It's something a bit different to the usual black or silver! And a lot different to my previous V630i. I've just found out its not so flash for gaming though. World Rally Championship (3D) has such a bad frame-rate that it's not even worth playing. It's frustrating! Otherwise, it's a great phone. What phones do you guys use?
Just found the rates for data on the NZ Vodafone website! They're a little WORSE than I had said!
All prices are NZ$ sorry! But HOBBS said 1.00NZD=6.3ZAR, so you'll get the idea.
Prepay - $11.25/MB (no, that's not a typo!).
Plans:
3MB for $11.25 + extra MBs cost $2.25 (This is on a plan!).
15MB for $21.38 + extra MBs cost $1.69.
200MB for $39.95 + extra MBs cost 50 cents.
1GB for $59.95 + extra MBs cost 50 cents.
3GB for $79.95 + extra MBs cost 50 cents.
To put this into perspective a bit, on the main NZ home broadband provider, my family get 3GB/month for about NZ $30.
The pricing above is mobile data pricing for non-business customers on plans, so business customers will get cheaper deals. But as you can see, you'd have to be very stupid to use data in New Zealand using Vodafone (and I believe Telecom is just as bad)!
I think either carkitter is phenomenally rich, or he's getting a very very good deal on his Vodafone plans. I suspect he has some contacts quite high up in Vodafone management.
I'd advise that if you come to NZ, either sort out a rate with your current service provider for roaming, or do all your internet usage at a computer, not a phone!
It's funny, I think I write the longest posts in your thread than anywhere else on Esato! So sorry about the long-winded replies guys!

@ Hobbs
Ive played on UIQ phones. Ive had a go at the P910 and i was fortunate enough to play with the P1 and W960 in October last year. I liked them but i prefer to have a Dpad, also don't like the idea of touching the screen and using a jogdial all just seems unecessary to me.
@ Wanqa
WOW! 520mhz!!? Not bad AT ALL boet, thats 120mhz more than the current WM Flagship device HTC TyTN-II. The battery yah is much better than N96, im still not sure what CPU N96 is using AND it looks like im not alone judging by the N96 Thread at Symbian Freak, NOKIA are keeping the CPU a secret.

No worries matey; no apology needed. It's great having such informative posts, and we used to have a bloke here (francois) whose post lengths usually eclipsed most of us on esato. Miss the guy.
