On the subject of Vodacom's GPRS... Noticed today that my reception was quite choppy. I'll enquire with the technicians whether they're upgrading their base stations to be capable of 3G.

@Rick...don't know where you've been the last couple of months but all the networks have been charging R2/MB for out of bundle usage.

MTN South Africa charges R2/MB for their GPRS service. Does anyone know how much they charge for EDGE?
There is no information about EDGE on their website. I need the info badly.

AFAIK MTN chargers R2/MB for all data whether it be GPRS, EDGE or 3G. You should note though your usage will vary accordingly depending on which system you use. If you're using EDGE and visit streaming sites you'll end up with a massive headache when it comes time to say your bill.

Yeah,Brix is right.I don't know about 3G but EDGE I've tested it myself here in Jeffreys Bay ,Eastern Cape on a borrowed :-( 6630 bluetooth linked to my Fujitsu-Siemens laptop while sitting in a coffe shop. The speed is about 200kbps down and 100up.And the price is identical to GPRS.Some of the young tourists (they are quite a few in Jeffreys) asked me where can they pay to register on the 'hot spot' thinking I am on a wifi connection :-) Just as a jocke send one to the cashier. The following confusion was quite funny to watch :-))

I don't know what the deal is with GPRS, all I know is that my V800 would NEVER connect here at work, and neither would my T68i...
It just seemed coincidence that as soon as I upgraded my firmware to Z800, then everything works fine.
If I still had my T68i, then I would test that, maybe they have just been working on the towers, but then again, my phones have always shown that I have GPRS signal, they just never connected.

Coincidentaly, Yesterday I started experiencing the same problem with my K700i. It shows the blue GPRS triangle but won't connect. It's on and off though. My only guess is that they're upgrading the towers for 3G.

Not possible, It is the settings that were sent to my phone, and the settings were double checked with Vodacom Techies on more than a few occasions...

Also doubt it could've been the settings with the V800.

Signal here has always been crappy. We are in an industrial area, in the middle of nowhere. Sometime I get signal from towers that are 20-30km away. But things seen to be better now, he only Vodacom would upgrade the towers to 3G |

I have a strong feeling that Mtn is gonna rock with its 3G and EDGE networks. Vodacom may have to start worryin a bit more! Also thinkin of goin bak to Mtn, been wit them from 98 to apr 05 ! I also read about da new SE V600i 3G phone wit bluetooth only problem its 4 vodafone and only has 32Mb! Smartphone or 3G mobile?
