Looks very fake to me. I don't think SE would release a phone like that now.

SE should forget about Walkman and Cybershot series for their high-end phones. People nowadays do not buy high-end smartphone solely because of its photographic or music capabilities but the combination of both, it's all about convergence. Beside, these two lines have died long time ago and SE should not bother reviving them. Xperia and Entertainment Unlimited are good enough high-end series for SE. Leave the Walkman and Cybershot to low-end.

I would expect no high-end phone from SE next year with less than the following features:

-32 GB MoviNand internal memory, microSDXC memory card slot
-1080p video recording @30 fps, stereo sound
-Plasma flash instead of Xenon and Dual LED flashes
-4" 720p capacitive SLCD screen with 16 million colors and multi-touch support, at least 326 DPI
-Two stereo speakers and mics (and another one for noise cancellation)
-gyroscope
-HSPA+ up to 21mbps or 42mbps
-microHDMI (Acer Stream, which has just been released, is the first mobile phone to have this type of connector)
-Bluetooth 4.0
-Secondary front-facing camera
-1.5 ghz ARM 8 dual core processor, 1 GB RAM, 2 GB ROM
-Built-in headset-free FM Radio with RDS, FM Transmitter
-plus the common features - microUSB 2.0, 3.5 mm jack, etc.

Samsung for sure will have smartphones with better hardware specification than this, but at least SE will stand a chance if they incorporate these features into their high-end smartphones.

Not that one, the pic at the start of the thread 'Soon Announcement.'

Even if it was real, it's styling is closer to SE's styling in the C905 days, not the X10 and Vivaz days we're currently in the middle of. That says to me that if it exists, it is a canceled prototype.

It certainly looks fake.

@badassmam

As usual thank you for info.

I hope this WP7 device will be at least as good in design as X1/X2.
And will have a qwerty. At least as good as on X2.
The question is also about DPad/navipad........

Really, you don't seem to know what you're talking about. You're just listing a load of buzz words and numbers... BlueTooth 4.0, really? Isn't that just BlueTooth 3.0 with an added low power profile for certain specialized uses? 720p on a phone, really? The DPI will be insane and I don't think any modern phone OS currently would run on it... That resolution alone would be a hell for SE software engineers to rebuild or retool lots of apps or even an entire OS to make the most of it and apps in the app stores would not use the resolution... Plus, power usage would be higher too...

Seriously, all those numbers and specs don't mean anything in today's market to the average customer.

SE has other priorities in my opinion and the most important one is software. They can't even get Android 2.1 out fast enough, and let's not start about Android 2.2. For their next high end phone, they should make sure it'll run Android 3.0 Gingerbread well enough at launch or close to launch. Until they can bring that, they should make sure that any phone that can't run Android 3.0 hardware wise, should run Android 2.2 from now on.

Phones until Android3.0 should include specs close to or slightly higher than X10 with a 3-4 inch display and a nice camera imo. Most importantly, all newly announced Android phones should run at least Android 2.2 from now on.

The 'X3' should have a qwerty since its the only attractive feature of the X1 and X2 that fooled some into buying the damn things, me included. I would imagine that it will look more like the Vivaz Pro with human curvature design for example. There are certain things that they cannot change much due to the OS and I'm not sure if that includes the qwerty as well i.e. does it have to have certain features. So far we have seen the LG Panther qwerty which look quite basic so we don't know if certain buttons would work for example, if there is a shortcut for SMS/MMS like on the HTC Touch Pro 2.

@Ultimus

You're right, big numbers and specs are often outdone by fashion and cool. Apple seems to ship their phones with 'happy' which is why they do well. More importantly, hardware means nothing if the software is crap so should totally ditch 2.1 and dive into 2.2 for the X10. The difference between 1.6 and 2.1 is big but its not so bad between 2.1 and 2.2 nevertheless, they should get with the times. Its like buying this year's ManU kit and having 'Ronaldo' on the back, it clearly looks better on a Madrid shirt. Just look at how many cameras are on him now and how many new fans he has as well.

I think you are the one who does not know what you're talking about. Android Gingerbread will support resolution up to 720p, you can validate that once it is announced later this year.

About the Bluetooth 4.0, why would SE use Bluetooth 3.0 when a slightly better version is available with not that much of a price difference? Does it make any sense at all? Definitely not. It is like why not just stay with Bluetooth 2.0 instead of using the 2.1 version. We are talking about "high-end phones" here.

If you want a device with slightly better processor than X10, then you do not have to wait until next year just to buy one. You can just go grab Samsung Galaxy S I9000 or Motorola DroidX as both will get the Froyo update soon and have "slightly better" CPU than X10, not to mention iPhone 4 (if you're looking for a non-Android device). Seriously, the success of a device does not depend solely just on the software and coolness factor, but on the "overall package," meaning great set of top-end features that are functioning well, backed up by strong hardware components and great software implementation with an uber cool design.

The features I wrote on that post you replied to, are what could be the standard features set of a 2011 high end device. You can bet on that. Some of the features I wrote like the microHDMI v1.4 is already incorporated in Acer Stream and soon microSDXC will appear in the market. So I am not just making a list of features with no factual basis. I got them all from the current set of features that are incorporated on most high-end phones this year.

IF SE will follow the same ideologies as yourself and Badassman, they are just going to catch up everytime. SE will never get its glorious days back. Because nowadays, every manufacturer can get what the others have. The best thing SE can do is to get along and try to get ahead when they see an opportunity.

There was a time where were top but that was ages ago. The X1 was the ultimate phone with the best specs available but its software crippled it. Back then, people would go for the name Cyber-Shot or Walkman and they are trying to rebuild that image. They are not great financially so for them to make a mega device like the one you describe is a major risk.

The current line up apart from the X2 is smart and safe. The X2 has good enough hardware but its buggy like hell and with its price, a big gamble and a big loss for The X10 may be behind in certain aspects but it was a good decision to make it because its following the current trend and as a result, is doing well. The X10 Minis and Vivazs are good ideas also so despite them being quite average on paper, they should do OK.

At the big boy meetings they look at the market and finances to set a target, after that they decide if they need a high end device or not. They don't design whatever innovative product and sell it, other factors set the limit on the phone. If they decided that the X10 would be sold at £700 at launch then they would have made the perfect phone but it had limits set and this is the best they could do for it. For you to justify your device would be hard because its a risk and its not necessary.

My opinion is that a phone like my Desire is as good as it gets. Maybe next year it will have a better camera but otherwise it does everything I want it to do and very well. Putting a 1.5Ghz processor won't appeal to me because I don't need it likewise features such as bluetooth 4.0.

Its very tough to run a big company like and even harder making decisions that could loss them millions. The next announcement will according to my source, have at least two high end devices and maybe a couple of mid rangers. Don't worry about playing top trumps with the specs, look at the device on a whole and that way you should be impressed.

Android Qwerty

Can you give pictures?
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand...

If the "qwerty android" (guess you mean the 5inch) is the only highend android im gonna get pissed. I want a x11 (or x20 or whatever). Thought x10 was a failure and I wont trade my iphone for something with crippled hardware.
