thoughts:
1. sony should either engrave its front logo on the the phone material and not on the film which looks cheap, or not print a front logo at all. (on a side note, some people don't like companies logos in the front so it could be a good thing for them).
2. iphone 4/4s is also covered in front and back glass and apple don't stick a film to it, how come? is the z1 without the film more sensitive to shattering then the iphone 4/4s?

IMO, iphone or other phones especially the one with gorilla glass has tendency to break easily compared to Sony's phone (with shatterproof plastic). I think if you drop Xperia and other gorilla glass smartphones, chances are high for the others to break. I've dropped smartphone (not xperia) with gorilla glass once and it shattered (very costly to replace). With xperia, I've dropped it several times but the glass still intact. I think this is due to the shatterproof.

@ascariss,
true.

Gorilla/Dragontail glasses are meant to be scratch resistant not shutter-proof. So while you won't see those fine superficial lines (scratches) from your keys and other stuff, they will brake like glass if dropped.

My 808 sustained several drops but finally died (Gorilla cracked into many pieces, still holding together and no damage to LCD itself).

On the other side, I have changed my wife's Z screen protector twice as it easily gets scratched and looks ugly, but in case your device falls I guess it does provide some additional strength (like when you put darken foils on windows in car for example).

Which "method" is better? I guess it down to personal preferences, but I don't like protectors (fixed mine 808 for 200 EUR, never thought putting screen protector on).

And small side note: unlike some people mentioned here, I have not experienced any difference in gliding finger over Gorilla glass (808) vs XZ, sensation (if we can call it that way) is the same.

Cheers,
Miki

ok, but my question is different.
first of all the "shatter proof" or better announced "shatter resistance" is only when the film is on the Z1. second, i asked: "is a filmless Z1 more sensitive then a filmless iphone 4/4s?"
answer only someone who knows for sure.

Not sure what O2 situation is with the white, but in UK, most places have their white shipment delayed to the 23rd. So don't be surprised if everyone you know received their black Z1. The only odd situation I know of is that Car Phone Warehouse actually is delaying their black units' shipment and shipping their White and Purple out first.

@amirprog - are you really back on this topic again? if you're so worried about the glass shattering, put a protector on it! No one can answer your question with 100% confidence.

@aurelius - would you happen to know when Tmobile USA/Sony will make it (C6906) available? If exclusivity ends March 14, that probably means a 6 month agreement with availability starting Oct. 14.. hmm..

seeing as how the Z is still a premium device ($99 vs S4 is free and the S4 is a younger device overall) for TmobUSA i wouldnt hold out hope for it to be out soon... just buy the device unlocked, save yourself months of headache. i know if i get the C6906 it will probably either be used or from overseas..

@ moogoo

This info I got may not be 100% accurate but I have heard that the Z1 is supposed to hit T-Mobile USA sometimes in November.
The unlocked Z1 C6902 will be available in early October.

I would prefer to have C6906 unlocked. It's just that no one is selling it. I'll wait til after the 1st week of october and make a decision. I won't wait around for Tmobile or Sony to announce anything. I'll use whatever LTE i can use with C6903.

The Z1 camera certainly trounces the S4 camera in that comparison.

looks like a lot of poorly white balanced photos to me.. there's no way Z1's screen has that strong of a blue hue..
