Exactly Guy H, some people's frustration is quite questionable. Also people who don't actually own P990 can be (based on what they read here) under impression that the phone is useless, crap, non functional etc which is so far from true. I use it heavy every day for work and fun and it's amazing little device. I wait new fws not to go from crap to at least useful device but to use it to it's fullest potential which is enormous IMO. |

you got to agree; due all the software failures it's not realy a phone i'd recommend someone at this stage.
i'll have to switchoff phone or remove battery atlease 3 times a day due system freeze
i've not other software installed, so that could not be the cause |

Apart from the fact that your phone probably needs to be reflashed, because it's quite abnormal having crashes everyday! I have a P990i and I never get crashes (as many other users) with current firmware.
Many users solved their problem just re-flashing their phone!
Anyway, when the phone freezes (happened once to me in 3 and a half months) it's enough keeping the power switch pushed for more than 10 seconds, and the phone reboots without having to extract the battery! |

That's the whole point. Some people don't have real problems with the phone but are first to criticise it. Some of them do not know how to use it properly. Some devices are probably faulty or it's OS demands repair but not via SEUS. Mix it with real shortcoming as memory leak or non adequate RAM for those marvellous features and everyone in under impression that P990 is bs.
For example in my P990 every function work as it's suppose to be and we know how great function this phone has. I experience self restart once in a blue moon. No bugs, no freezes, no strange behaviour and I really use it heavy. I used to restart it manualy due to memory leak i.e. to regain multitasking capacity sometimes even every second day but now I kill securityapp on startup so after two days I have 13mb RAM and no need for restart.
All I want to say is that many people have the same experience as mine so those horor stories are just one side of the medal. And new fw is yet to come.

@londonlad123:
I can do the same thing on my P990i. I just hold down the hash-key on the flip!
You removed your flip, didn't you? Then you're missing the same keypad that you have on your K800i.

I think you've misunderstood. Yes as I had mentioned, I have removed the flip and there's also a picture under my username that shows this. I am aware that with the flip on, you could do this. But without the flip on my phone is less error prone, less bulkier and better looking in my opinion. SE has seen this and catered for it by offering the ability to remove the flip.
Without the Flip in standby, it seems like you know why the keys do nothing?
Remember, that phones based on the UIQ3 platform that have followed fixed this issue, as me and DragonEye were discussing.
Apart from that, theres a lot of people that have also decided to read what they want to read. Sorry if what I have written causes you great trouble. I've not said the phone is useless crap because it is good, I said the standby is useless.
You will hear bad points about the p990 and how others get on with theirs. Thats part of a forum. But ranting about what other people have apparantly 'ranted' about and not really talking about the phone is worse and no good at all for anyone. Because how could you possibly know 100%, how other peoples p990s are performing? You don't. |

I have no idea what you're doing to cause that. Mine has been up for about 4 days now. If I use SM pro I still get about 12mb free on clear up.
I'd update your phone via SEUS even if it says you have the latest FW. I'd then install Swiss Manager and set it to flush tasks when idle. I think you'll find a massive difference in you P990i if you did that.
If it does freeze as said hold down the power button for 10 seconds and it will power off. then just restart. no need to take the battery out.
let us know how you get on.
edit: sorry uptime of my phone 2d 05h 33m
Free RAM 12.5MB (20%)

Well, it take some time to get use to it. But i am getting there now. Its not at all like a "normal" phone. So yes, i agree. I do think that alot of people dont know how to use this toy. One thing you got to use well is the taskmanager OR the Swiss Manager. If you do this right, then its just a beauty. Its working great

It sounds like there are two versions of the P990i out there:
- A crappy one that crashes several times per day and sometimes even needs the battery to be removed and re-inserted to bring up the phone again.
- My phone seems to be the second version. I have had the phone for about five weeks. It has crashed twice only (i.e. "reboot to improve performance").
The phone is slow but stable. I see that the memory leaks slowly. At boot I have about 14 MB. After five days this has reached 7 MB. I backup the phone every few days so I can not test maximum uptime.
My phone is unlocked. Maybe the locked phones are less stable?

Anybody else notice how people rant the P990i cant do something then somebody tells them how to do it? maybe if people read the manual once or twice they may not be so angry?
It's only a phone chaps so yes show your displeasure at it's failings but growe up and stop throwing a tantrum because it fails to do something exactly as you expect but does the function a slightly different way.

lol...the p990i's UIQ platform is extremely inconsistent and poorly thought though.. and to top it off has terrible memory management... so many damn bugs and it's way to slow.. just doens't make sense...
i've loaded all the data from my k790a to my e61 and now to my p990.. and the p990 has a hard time... (slow and freezes) opening pictures, building thumbnails, open videos and playing them... this is silly...
they need to remap all their keys and get this things working properly... i'm trying to hold out for the new firmware but i think i'll be selling real soon..
even setting wlan was painful i had to reboot twice to get it to enter the wep key properly...
also agile and browsing won't work... crash crash crash..so sad...

It works for me but I didn't remove flip i.e. just open it before pressing space button (it goes to dialling even if Opera is on the screen). |

mates, p990i is just what i really want. The first p990i i owned was robbed then i bought another p990i because i really miss how all the things i need are in one phone. My phone works perfectly just like any other phone it will only turn off when the battery is drained. To our other mates that has a p990i that hangs try reflashing it again. Even though the SEUS said that you have the latest, flash it again because they still add some updates when you reflash your phone |
