Bloomberg News is reporting this morning that Apple's iPhone has been found to infringe on three MobileMedia patents in a US court. For those unaware, MobileMedia is an outfit that's owned by Sony, MPEG-LA and Nokia, being formed in early 2010 mostly as a means to enforce patents owned by the trio.
Sony is getting involved in the patent wars. WHY?
Well that's like saying Apple is allowed to protect it's IP but not Sony? (or MobileMedia patents). The patents they seem to be protecting look like pretty essential ones - not like the silly bounce-back one.

Good stuff with the trick for the phonearena! )
I was quite surprised by the C430X as that would be a phone very close the "next P" so not so disappointed it wont come true.
And also good that Sony is not taking Exynos from Samsung. Overall that wouldn't be a wise move, especially after being named XDA OEM of the year for Dev. support. It would also mean much more costs for Software development having yet another SoC to support. Besides, Japanese and Koreans??? That would never work...
So my personal guess?
As Qualcomm being sold out to HTC & Nokia and ST-Ericsson on the fall, some new players will have to come to the SoC game. Because that is where Sony struggles currently.
First adept is Mediatek with a lot of experience from cheap tablets.

And dont forget this player in the game.

Intel definitely wants to get a Chunk from ARM platform so if partnered with Sony... both can benefit from it hugely. Just like we saw last time Nokia and Microsoft. Me being the chief of Sony mobile would be already having 2-3 SoCs from intel in the testing.
So my personal guess is that in 2013 we will see midrange phones with Mediatek SoCs and maybe a high-end with Intel SoC...
Kinda wild thoughts... |

Please no Intel things, I just hate the idea of being x86... just porting Android to x86 is taking time.. just take a look in the news when Intel releases the x86 version of Android after the original AOSP is released...
I feel what Sony should do is to focus on having more relation with Qualcomm, specially with the problems now HTC is facing, To be honest, when I first heard that the WM8 will be using S4 platform I was sad as this will mean lower and lower priority for Sony also... now you can see even LG has better priority than Sony in qualcomm's list... I don't know why but this is the priority list as we can see...
MediaTek is nice, but there's two problems... it will be only a mid range maker now... the second is there's no modem here.. Sony will have to have another modem chip... I know MediaTek is providing it's modem but that one is for china and I don't know if it has license also ( Will Sony be sued if they released a product that uses that modem in US/Europe )...

I dont see why it matters whether blogs/mobile sites post info (rumours) from Esato or not. It has happened before and will always happen. If the rumours dont come from here they will come from else where.
So they post stories, who cares? We know they are rumours.... Carry on as per normal here. Theres no need to change.

Kind of funny/sad that none of the sites that reported the fake Yuga specs have corrected their articles (at least not as far as I've been able to tell). |
