I believe I read once somewhere in this forum that O2 (UK) supply phones on contract which are not locked to their network. Is this correct? As I thought all operators locked their phones to their specific network.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but if there is any consolation I do intend to get the K800i.

I've never had a locked o2 mobile that came through contract (4 in total) dont see the point, your paying the line rental so they are getting their money's worth no matter what network u choose to go on after that.

Minstrel Man, thanks for your prompt response. Do you deal with O2 direct or through CPW or another company?

I'll be looking at ordering through the O2 webiste as a new customer.

Am currently with Vodaphone. Never had need to contact their customer services. However reading through these various threads, their tariffs do appear to be more expensive.

Once again, thanks Minstrel Man

I'm debating whether to go 3G or stick with normal GSM. Any thoughts on which I should go for?

I'm really just after the phone for it's convenience factor. Quality camera, good looking reliable phone. I mainly text (SMS but now increasingly MMS) with the ocassional phone calls.

Another question.

I can get K800i on O2 3G for minimum £19pm 12month contract and pay £50 for the phone. Total cost over the contract period £278

If I opt for GSM the phone is free but only on 18mth £30 minimum contract. Total cost over the contract period £540

The better deal appears to be 3G but I have no experience with 3G network.

Where is this from? It can't be O2 online as there is no difference in price or offer for 2.5g or 3g on O2 online. It makes no odds at all as you can use your inclusive minutes for video calls - sounds a bit fishy to me.

Does this mean I can't use any sim in the k800i unless it says 3g somewhere or what?

You can use a normal sim. You wont be able to use the 3g services though.

Please, could anyone answer my questions???

I heard and read that the k800/k790 has new Java platform 7 wich could support applications for recording video in 320*240 resolution or even higher.... Is that true???
And I have a few more questions:
-Is the video recording at least little better than k750's?
-How is the overall speed of the phone (browsing pictures, watching videos, browsing menus, playing high quality 3d java apps and games....)
-Does it have any FW problems so far (restarting with white screen (like good old K750), blocking, etc.)
???

Please answer....

Thanx in advance!

Pls.... [addsig]

I hear that video recording is slightly better than the K750.

The recording video picture might be slightly bigger due to the bigger and better screen, but I don't really know.

I also hear that the phone's speed is very good, picture browsing is almost instantaneously.

So far I don't think there have been any reports of bugs or firmware issues etc.

I can't wait to get my K800, comes soon this month (delivered), I just so want to have a fiddle and play with it.

Click on All phones on their website shop. Search by Sony Ericsson phones. You will be left with three options for the K800i of which one is for their 3G network. Select this and you will be given two tariffs, an 18mth and a 12mth tariff. Either will cost you £49.99 for the phone and the cheapest contract is £19 p/m

Sounded such a good deal that I decided to order one. Just waiting for a confirmation e-mail (which may or may not arrive). Any ideas when I'm likely to get it delivered if it's in stock? Ordered 5pm today.
