@arnold. Ok yan. I used to get some of the audiophile CDs from Upscale Audio (present location of Mobile1 in Park Sq. but now in 5/F Megamall Bldg. B.). Patsamba tsamba lang or you have to order abroad.

The Michael Ruff might be easier to find since some songs in that CD became popular but it remains an audiophile reference recording. You can also order this from Amazon (usually takes 3-5 weeks if normal shipping).

The Firebird can be found in places like M1 but make sure you get the recordings from good companies. I think Upscale might have this too if you're lucky.

@ arnold, you can also check out the R2D4 (Records 2 Die 4) list of Stereophile magazine. Go to http://www.stereophile.com, follow the "archives" link and check out the February issues of every year.

I used to eagerly await this issue (& the "Recommended Components" issue every October) back when I could afford the subscription. Now libre na online. hehe

The complete name of the Radka CD is: RADKA TONEFF/STEVE DOBROGOSZ: Fairytales. It's very rare and can be found in Stereophile's 1991 R2D4 issue.

The Michael Ruff CD appeared in the '96 R2D4 list.

@arnold: I'm no expert ... I just love music and try to listen to it as transparent as possible (within my budget of course -- which is quite limiting). Audio EB, hmmmmm. If I can get away from work and all my fatherly duties, that sounds great. It'd have to be like a whole afternoon though to be worthwhile.

As to the cds, I'm not sure where to get good ones nowadays. Mozilla is right. Upscale does sell cds, that is if you want to return there. You can also check in audiophile stores, they normally do carry very good mastered material.

@vince, simplest way is to buy a mini-plug cable. kung hi-tech gusto mo, i.e., digital recording, there are devices available that plugs to the usb port and can connect to optical cables for digital recording. but your MP3 files must be encoded with 292K at least to make sense.

@vince, if your notebook/desktop does not have an optical output, you can't use you optical cable. you have to settle for analog output of the pc connected to the analog in of your md. if you want to record in digital mode, you have to get one of (or similar to) this:

same here.... i wonder also, is tactel down for now? and i get some MMS from people trying out the Globe way. but you have to go to a site before we see the MMS sent to us? not a fast way to communicate via MMS now. i still prefer tactel's. tho' i guess we have no choice if globe block it now.

and re: the music issue here... looks like everyone's into real audiophile side. i use my setup to play ECM music. people call it jazz, but i dont think it is. but if one is deperate for labeling... ok for now let's call it jazz... jon hassel, jack dejohnette, terje rypdal, jan garbarek, john abercrombie, etc... if you play ECM cds on a lousy setup... it will show.

radka toneff/steve dobrogosz fairytales (odin nj-4003-2)? there are people here listening to those norse gods too? how about karin krog? john surman? i would have to assume then that you guys also have a catalogue of the ODIN records. not to mention ECM too (which is where my favorites are). those scandinavian improvisers are great.
