@arnold: I'd bring my favorite cds. Naturally, I'd know very well how they sound in my own system. As such, I'd be able to compare the sound during the audition. Also, if you own audiophile cds, then it's a no brainer to bring them as well.

@nephilim, yes, i think i mean what titles do you bring, i.e., diana krall's love seats, etc. am looking for reference titles kasi, baka there is something in your favorites na useful sa akin.  |

@arnold: I have some Stereophile test discs which I would of course take along with me. Among the regular CDs I'd bring with me: Deedee Bridgewater live at Yoshi's and the Dear Ella album; A Dave Brubeck disc; Maybe a couple of Paul Desmond cds from the complete RCA label (box set) recordings; and an Ella Fitzgerald disc (one of those high fidelity recordings.
If you'd like to borrow my Stereophile discs, let me know. Also, although I haven't been buying some discs of late, I've forever been looking for a good recording Pipe organ disc. This is one of the best types of music to test the dynamics of your system. The bass extensions most especially.

@ arnold/neph, sorry to butt in but i couldn't resist.
For my part, I usually bring the following:
1. Chesky test disk 1 - there is a track there recorded in an old church with the mic (ie you the listener) in the center. Then 4 people walk in from the back (church's main door). Each person is carrying a different instrument (maracas, etc) . They walk around the mic and exit thru a side door to the left. If the system is good, you will hear them as they come in, hear each instrument (person) distinctively walking around you a foot apart from each other, then they exit to the left and you'll hear the side door as it shuts softly to the left.
There is also a very good test track of a drumset.
2. Michael Ruff, Speaking in Melodies (Sheffield Labs) - superb recording! The snare is very realistic. I used to set up concerts and this sounds like the real thing. You can also visualize Michael Ruff's voice lower and to the left of the female vocalist (since he is sitting and playing the keyboards as he sings). The instrumentation and staging is great.
3. For classical, I bring a CD called "It's peaceful here". It's a piano and violin CD.
4. For deep bass and dynamic range I use "Stravinsky's Firebird". There is a track that will make cheap speakers pop out and amps without enough headroom to clip. very good test of dynamic range as the soft passages are very quiet with sudden bursts of sound.
5. Vocals - Radka Tonef is my best and most prized CD for this.

@mozilla: Please do butt in. That sounds like a good test disc. The Stereophile test discs I have contain similar tracks. It also has a track wherein the mic is in the middle of a hall and a guy's clapping and talking while walking around the hall. Amazing how you can get a surround effect listening to two channel audio. What proper speaker placement will do It also has a drum solo, guitar solo and a lot of other things. Even a track full of noise that contains a wide range of frequencies for the purpose of burning in your new speakers, cables or what have you.

@mozilla: you really used to setup concerts? Cool. Was it a hobby or did you like study sound engineering and stuff. A few years back my cousin and I were thinking of setting up a studio for purposes of post production sound for commercials and movies. He finished his studies in Florida and I was supposed to later on either train with him or study abroad. Well, obviously the venture didn't push thru.
