bakit ganun?
bakit nun t68i + mca20, hindi na-publicize yun traffic cam...
ngayon both GMA and ABS-CBN morning shows are sporting 7650s for their traffic updates... |

@* SMART users
has anyone complained about emails you send from your phone with image attachments and being reported as virus-infected by recipients?
The tech rumor column, About Coffeemates, of PDI is suggesting that such a problem exists.
comments?
@gprs
What T68i?
@ferrarista44 re 7650 use in GMA7/ABS-CBN
alam naman nating magaling sa marketing ang nokia e (at kabaligtaran nito ang mga taga-SE - but we admit they make great phones!)

@*, re: inquirer article mentioned by gowin -http://www.inq7.net/inf/2002/aug/27/inf_36-2.htm
without reading the article yet and just basing on gowin's original post, i find it questionable, for the following reasons:
1. the core smtp and pop3/imap4 services does not have the capability to detect if a virus is being sent or received by these servers, and will just pass thru whatever that is sent or received
(so why smart subscribers only?)
2. the t68i won't properly display a jpeg/gif file in it's image browser if the image signature is altered (virus infected) so you would have deleted the file anyway. which means you won't send such, hence will not originate from a t68i
(a sample of an virus-infected image file that i got once has garbage on its lower part, which contains the malicious code. and this one didn't come from a t68i or sent via Smart's POP3/SMTP servers)
after reading the article, i doubt the accuracy of the article. i argue, and i quote,
"Ted: That's definitely weird. You know this MMS phone of mine, something weird happened, too. I was sending an image via e-mail, and the recipient -- whose system has anti-virus software -- rejected it because, according to him, it has a virus! "
note that he said, he sent an image via email
i further quote,
"Fred: But how can that be? If you took the picture using that phone, stored it on that phone and sent it on that phone, then where did the virus come from?
Ted: Either from the source -- the phone itself -- or the MMS server I sent it through. I'm more inclined to believe it was from the MMS server since chances of the new phone itself being infected are low. "
so how did the MMS server came into the picture when it was sent via email (required SMTP)?
ok, let's forgive this two fictitious characters and assume they're not technically knowledgeable (jologs??? )
but that's a harsh insinuation that the telco's (Smart???) SMTP server alters the original image, inserts malicious code, and send it out.
highly doubtful.
i'll give you a possible scenarios:
scenarion 1:
the person is using a Nokia 7650, who is fond of downloading java midlets from the internet. he took a picture using the camera, sent it via email not knowing that one of the java midlets he downloaded attached a malicious code in every image stored in the phone.
still in this scenario, the SMTP servers know nothing about the file being sent, and just sent it. so their claim of the virus coming from/being added by, the telco's SMTP server is doubtful.
scenario 2:
the telco's SMTP server is infected by a virus that alters all images and adds malicious code into the images.
but why only him?
ang labo nyang article na yan!

Good morning!
Just heard Team USA lost again in the Basketball World Championships. They're out of the tournament. So much for their NBA stars, and playing at home at that.
