For an s3/note 2 you need to use it at 100% brightness and that might not even be as bright as 60% on competing LCDs...
Today I saw a Z for the first time. The display? Amazing. I have a N4 - which has amazing viewing angles. I can watch videos from almost any angle. Which came in useful for around 5 mins yesterday out of the few weeks I've had it. Any other time, I've hated the fact that a lot of people at a small angle and far away can see whatever I'm doing...

The fuss is about people who don't know sh..t but voice their opinion constantly.
And about the panic it causes because it's clearly very hyped product.

Yep. The Xperia T forum didn't get trolled this hard and constantly. The Z has. I can't even imagine the 2H flagship device forum. Hopefully, it will kill the trolls before they get the chance.
The Z really does have an amazing screen. The build quality is the best out of any phone I've come across - including all the iPhones, most Lumias etc. (Samsung doesn't even need a mention here, it's irrelevant).
A friend says to me that he might get wait for the S4 instead of the Z. I said it will be slightly more powerful, but you'll not notice. And you won't notice any rain either with the Z (which we get enough of in London). End of discussion. |

Just got an update from my SMC US contact, nothing with 100% confirmation yet, but it looks like:
Xperia Z - T-Mobile in April, should come with the JDI panel and SD600 rather than Sharp and APQ8064 like EU/Asia.
Xperia ZL - Offline $599, possibly on Sprint in early June.
AT&T have decided to go with whatever Sony are cooking up in 2H, I think the phablet and the Xperia T successor.
Hmm so Europe and Asia gets the inferior ones |

i dont think so....maybe thats just the 1st set of distribution. if sales in asia/eu are huge, then SD600 with JD will be distributed here too |

OK enough of making us feel like suckers for being the first adopters of the phone.
We get enough grief from other fanboys please spare your fellow Sony Fanboys.
I am looking forward to Thursday but already so many little snippets to make me worry.
Will I get my free headphones? Screen issues! Better spec XZ for the US of A! Galaxy S4 round the corner. HTC One is better! And to cap it off my own family telling me I'm mad to leave Apple for Sony.
Spare me someone. Tell me I am doing the right thing. |

I too have seen the phone in the Three store. The screen, especially watching video, is fantastic. I really don't know what the fuss is about. I don't think anyone should judge the screen on the basis of a grey coloured theme, that's just silly.
Have a look yourself at your own preferred settings. Judging the phone from a few pictures you see on the internet doesn't makes sense because everyone has a different monitor and display settings.
The Xperia T also has slightly grey 'blacks' & it looked fine to me. It's not advertised as having deep blacks anyway. Also I have found on occasions poor photogaphy or just a poor shot can make the screen look crap in a photograph

@sunnychad
There are four iPhone users, one HTC and one Blackberry user in my office. Two iPhone users are seriously pissed off with Apple and the HTC owner has been converted to Sony after seeing what the XZ can do.
We're having a new fish tank installed before the end of the week, which should be fun, recording the fish inside the tank is bound to make a couple more jump ship .

I think many people didn't understand the screen issue... I have not any problem with the viewing angles in any sony smartphone! We know that Sony didn't have the best viewing angles on their devices so far. I had almost every phone and I should know it. I want explain why I don't like the screen of Z. The problem is that everything looking so grey. It looks like the screen is too bright, but this is not the problem. You see this "greyish lights" also when you turn it to the lowest brightness. And I know that the UI isn't more black... It looses too much colours when you don't look exact on it... My Xperia Arc, ION and whatever have also bad viewing angles, but not this problem with the colours! This is what I mean. I have seen now different screens of the Z, and I just want to know, how I can know where is which display inside... I want send my Z back and buy it again with the hope for "goodscreen". The Z feels really good in hands, it is really light, IMO it should be 160-170gramm for better premium feeling... But it's the sexiest ever!

My eyes are vey sensitive to bright light, I'm one of those people who get seriously furious at night when I have some douche on the road coming the opposite way with their brights on, and flash the hell out at them, so I can't stand my phone screen being bright, 50% is fine, it's actually still quite bright for me, the only time I truly need 100% is for navigation because the phone sits at a distance on my dashboard.

It's not the first time that SONY uses different displays for their phones:

It's not first time any company uses more than one supplier for displays in a device. Apple for instance uses 3 different suppliers (Samsung, LG and AOU) for their Macbook Airs, which like Z has heavily been debated since several years back, with same irritation level as here. Nothing unusual at all. |
