Just wondering.... Would SE ever bring out more clamshell phones? I love this form factor and even though I know all manufacturers are focusing more on touchscreen bars (and sliders), it would be nice to see some new mid-hi end clamshells.

We have been dreaming of phones with Japanese specifications from Sony Ericsson for years. They can still bring phones with the same quality and design and the same specs if they wanted, but they have wasted a lot of potential over the years. Just look at them now, their loss. They would never release such great phones *depressed former Sony Ericsson fan*.
Phones with the same hardware with Wi-Fi instead of 1-seg and the other stuff that does not work would be cool. Even though their latest Japanese phones are not as good as the phones from some of the other Japanese manufacturers, they are by far superior to anything released outside Japan.

Off topic but this thread is really dry. November will see the launch of WP7, there should be some phones that go beyond 1Ghz processors. We may see the first dual core processor for mobile devices as well. Moto said that they want to release a 2Ghz mobile before 2011 which is quite ambitious but others are using this kind of processor as well i.e. Samsung. HTC have 3 WP7 devices, LG and Samsung have theirs as well. A HTC will be the most powerful device to date.
HTC have a few Android devices, expect a Desire with qwerty and a cheaper version as well. They are looking to bump up the processors as well because Gingerbread could be quite demanding, some say that Froyo may not work for all devices because of some weaker processors.
Samsung currently have the best screens hands down and look to go even better next year with 720p screens so record HD videos and then watch them in HD on your mobile which is cool. This should be very tasty with Bluetooth 3.0 and a number of new technologies. Pixel density is supposedly even more than the iPhone retina display which is stunning.
Nokia's Meego phone is shaping up to be very powerful. I think they will cram as much as they can, into it.
Apparently Moto were to do a Nexus 2 loosely based on one of their own models but Google have quit from making mobiles.
Nothing from to report, nothing new to be released apart from X8 and co. There will be an early announcement around September/November followed by a long wait like the X10. |

When is Aspen to be released? Or is it cancelled? I'm asking because in the latest version of Omnius, released today, they have withdrawn support for this model. We really have not been hearing anything about this phone lately.

I hate the long wait for SE phones. The wait for the X10 was interminable - really frustrating.

The wait for the X10 was interminable because it has been leaked 3 months before its announcement. that + the usual 4-6 months of wait between announcement and release = FRUSTRATION
I hope they won't make the same mistake. |

True.
It's very rare that we don't find leaks about upcoming handsets but it's always nice when we get surprised.
Still, the X10 was announced early November, I think, and available at the very end of Q3? That's still a five month wait, which an lifetime in tech years. A lot happens in five months.

It's released according to global portfolio:

What SE needs now is just another high-end smartphone as transition from 2010 smartphones to 2011 ones, a peak of what costumers should expect from them next year. X10, with the recent updates, shows part of what it is really capable of and will reach its full potential when the Android 2.1 version upgrade is rolled out in September. Although it is quite late, it is still good for SE. By announcing another high-end device by then and release it shortly, I think this will compliment the update by SE on X10 and will be a good marketing strategy for SE's Android Smartphone Porfolio. |

Yep, a high-end smartphone released in November/December is just what SE needs. Actually, they desperately need that.
I see trouble ahead if SE isn't planning any release for the rest of the year. Their portfolio is enough to sustain them till around October even with the few upcoming releases.
I hope they have something planned for release late this year or all their hardwork to reverse the previous loses will be undone.

A smartphone with this specification would be nice.
- 4.0" WVGA screen (300 dpi) with 16 million colors and full multi-touch support

Software:
- Android 2.1 at least on release
- Smart dialing
- Should add FM Radio Tab, Sony Remote Play Tab, and Mobile TV Tab on Mediascape
- an option to download movies directly from "any paid sites" via mediascape's video tab by simply entering the website, username and password information, then a promp will ask for opening the web browser and sign one in to the paid members section and can now begin downloading movies

- 4.0" SXGA (1280*1024) screen 24bit color stantum resistive multi-touch support (infinite number of inputs FAR higher accuracy necessary on such a small and high res screen, capacitive just isnt up to the same task)
- 4 Row Keyboard
- 8.0 megapixel backlit sensor with auto-focus, 24x digital zoom, 720p video recording at 120 fps (with fast and slow motion modes) and Dual LED + Xenon Flash
- 128 GB Toshiba internal memory, 2 GB RAM and 8 GB ROM, microSDXC memory slot

- GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 ; HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 210; HSPA+ support up to 21 mbps
- 1.5 Ghz OMAP 4440 (A9) processor with SGX545 GPU ... DEDICATED DAC!!! (Flat FR from RMAA is a MUST)
- 2.0 megapixel secondary camera (full screen front facing video calling at 2.0 megapixel resolution), Li-Po 1800 mAh battery, gyroscope, accelometer, IR port
ftfy ...
and MeeGo! i want the freedom associated with maemo, android is too rigid ... i want access without voiding my warranty to every piece of hardware listed. the n900 is by far the strongest device ive ever owned. i would like to see SE try their hand at something like this, where they could focus on the hardware, instead of wasting 6 months on UX()
time.mediascape() coulda had the SEXX out in november of 09 if it wasnt for the wasted efforts on their outdated version of android. keep it generic, and add utility later IF ppl want it. dont handicap your device ESP when google released a phone BEFORE the SEXX and it was just generic. yet had the SAME stats if not a better screen and in hand feel (metal vs plastic ...) if they keep it simple the updates are also simple. they are working against themselves.
