I think the jury might be out on the design.
First impressions make you think there is a piece missing plus, as Tigershark pointed out, the vertical screen in chat-mode is a bit unusual.

I kinda like it. I like the G1 allso. It's design is not really nice, but it works like a charm. |

Not just unusual, but IMO, impractical, backwards in design philosophy. I really dont understand, but all we have is one picture so there is little point in assuming anything I suppose. |

Wasn't there another phone with that exact same form factor posted on BGR a few weeks ago? It wasn't an SE unit, though. |

PK can't say anymore.
I hope that phone will NEVER be announced... its ugly as hell and a complete failure in design. |

Hahaha is this SE's way to test the waters on their up and coming designs now? Release PK to leak and see what the fanboys think...lol lol oh well. I think structurally a phone with that sort of swivelling mechanism may be likely to break after a while. Having seen the relatively weak mechanism on the G1, I kind of prefer more traditional sliders which are more reliable and have greater strength, like on the X1. |

The image posted is a direct competitor to the ever popular LG KS360, the phones is likley to be a midrange product under the "G" series with a youth audience in mind, with many different colours available to appeal to all audiences. The features are likley to be pretty average with a 3.2megapixel camera & Wifi (wifi not so commen but becoming ever commen in the latest SE phones) capabilities with the main emphasis on communication and socialising. The main features advertised with this product will be the "youtube client", with the ability to upload videos on the move and the special "chat" app availble on the W705 in the messaging section. The features wont be anything special and will blur the line between high end and midrange (not a good thing), this is basically a G705 (minus the GPS), with the "Youtube" features emphasised and the "chat" features as well. This is likely to go for a reasonable price, if it didnt it wouldnt be able to stand a chance againts the LG KS360, with the LG phone eating up the G*** profits. |

Why would you want it to stay portrait instead of go landscape?
It would have been cool if the screen were adjustable to the landscape position too.
Wouldn't call it ugly, though, but certainly different, which is good.
However, the screen does look below 3"or the eyes may be playing tricks on us.
@PK and the savvy crew,
Any info on screen size?
Prey, are we to see any new accessories at MWC or ish? The new collection of gents bluetooth watches has been long time coming...
Cheers

To be honest I would love it!
Big qwerty plus vertical screen - awesome!
In fact you see more on vertical than horizontal.
For me - great. But I don't know if I want android... Rather WM.. |

Are we allowed to know what it says in that small chunk of text at the bottom of the image? Something about a unique swivel design. I'll say. I never liked swivels, so this just isnt for me. But I am liking the Hikaru design more and more |

Reese will NOT run Android. It is a regular Sony Ericsson phone running a similar OS seen on the C905. The reason why the screen swivels is because that OS (particular platform) doesn't support a landscape orientation besides in the Walkman menus and the Netfront browser.

Thanks.
Reese? Is that the codename?
I think they need to sort out the bottom end of the design. There should be nothing stopping them from raising the d-pad up to the same level as the screen. Then the design wouldn't look so.....
The swivel might appear to be a problem but not if they use the 'cycloid' mechanisms that are in use on some Japanese handsets.

The concept looks good to me, and probably when its out, the design will be good as well. But now, focusing on the goodies for tomorrow....
