Similar to what Tail is experiencing, I got my firmware reflashed about 10 days ago from the Service Center, and although the version is exactly the same, I noticed that it is more stable than before.
Not sure if it is a new firmware with old version number or the method of updating that is making it more stable. It doesn't make too much sense to make changes to firmware without changing the version number... so, could it be that the online updating is "faulty"? After all, there has been a couple of releases for seus already. |

@Ares,
Yes i did notice that particular point although i doubt it is actually 100 times faster but as the transitions have been disabled this has obviously had a positive effect. Obviously that's just a figure of speech but seeing as the P990 was slower than the M600 or W950 i would like to know if it is now faster than both of these devices, but it is definitely an encouraging sign and does show promise for the future.
As i have tried to explain previously i really am not anti SE but i suppose when a company whose products i have supported and used with a passion for so long behaves the way SE has over the release of UIQ3 i just felt very let down and possibly betrayed. I have always been an early adopter and paid the price both in actual cost and the pain whilst things get better but i really do think SE dropped the ball on this one. I really can not understand how anyone at SE deemed the P990 and M600 fit for release in the initial firmware. I am also stunned by the fact that the P990 has achieved the position of having the highest return rate of any SE phone really sad for a flagship model IMO.
I also can not understand what has taken so long to start fixing some of the issues either this should of all been done pre launch not post IMO. Although as i said further firmware upgrades will continue to improve these devices performance but there is only so much that this can achieve and no firmware can address the screen being so good in the right lighting conditions but virtually invisible in others but i do understand this is the price to be paid for a touch screen.
To be honest i am more than a little surprised that the N95 soon to be launched has not had an increase in the Ram installed and find this slightly disappointing and i have no intention of getting one as i really am not a fan of slider phones. But at least when Multitasking you can reclaim all of the Ram by closing/killing running apps and this is more than sufficient for my needs if not every ones.
I also don't understand why so many seem to want GPS in their device as my Holox GPS is small and has great battery life plus the ability to charge in the car via a Motorola cigarette lighter. Whats the point in fitting such a power hungry feature directly in the phone, Tom Tom IMO is the best mapping and directions solution available and i have used both TT5 and now TT6 and have no intention of seeking another solution any time soon. I have only started using Nokia's since June this year and as i have stated before have found i can do what i need without the need for a touchscreen maybe one day i will return to using SE devices again but at the moment i would say that is quite unlikely but never say never.
I really do hope that SE now realises just how many users they have lost through their actions and does the best possible for those that have hung on in there as you deserve the product you thought you were getting.
Marc

Is there a way to backup the current firmware before update via SEUS? Wouldn't it be great to have a software to backup & restore firmware so that we can decide which version to use. This would allow us to test out new firmware releases without committing "permanently". |

Has anyone checked for an update today? Start of a new week ... maybe, just maybe there is a slight chance. I would check, but I don't have my cable with me. |

@dogman, notice also what michal from my-symbian said about OS speed with the fw version he has (lightning fast), so SE is not just working on the RAM issue

Hi ares
Sorry, relatively new to this site. Can you please tell me where on the my-symbian site does Michal Jerez talk about his tests with newer FW versions?
Thanks |
