Received a call last week trying to get me to stay with o2 (i'm about 11 months in to my contract), so i told them to ring me back. A woman rang me today, offering 750 xnet mins, 150 txts and a free nokia "mumble" or sony ericsson "mumble" sounded like k700i.
I asked how long that contract was for and was told 18 months, and that all contracts are now only being offered as 18 months or 24 months. Smelled a bit to me, so i told her to ring me back next week. What should i do when she rings?? |

@muddytrousers
I suggest you tell her you only want a 12 month contract (they do still offer them, and are just telling porkies!) - if your a heavy texter, then try and haggle more texts
Just be firm with her.
Oh, and tell her you want a newer model of phone (ie, K750i at least!)

hi all,
have o2 chaged their tactics?
Best I was offered was 100 x-net minutes and 500 texts for £14. I wanted a k750i but they don't have them at the moment - they said they are suspended! Has anyone recently got a better deal or have o2 changed their policy on discounting their contracts?
thanks. |

Hi all!
I've been browsing this board for a fair few months and finally decided to join.
Thanks to this thread I'm a very happy bunny!
Basically-
*I had a k700i upgrade last September
*In April o2 gave me £100 cashback if I stayed in contract for another year
*August - my phone's interior LCD breaks - and o2 Select say they can fix it under warranty. I took it to the local o2 shop who posted it off and then promised me it would be back fixed in two weeks.
*Three weeks later I get a call from the o2 shop 'oh we can't fix your phone under warranty - it'll cost £93.80 to fix the screen or £17.50 to get your phone back'.
I go mental. (and don't pay of course!)
Then I browse this thread after browsing for the k750i on ebay.
Today i stammered the courage to call up o2 Select and request my PAC number. The guy came out with the old 'oh, can I ask why you want to leave- er actually you can't leave the network until April because you're contracted.'
I bricked my pants. All that bravado for nothing.
'It'll cost £200 to disconnect'
'Fine I'll pay it' I replied, 'I just can't deal with a network who doesn't care about its customers who've been with them for 7 years.'
he went silent, but I pressed on.
'I've been on the phone to 3 who are very happy to give me a much cheaper contract, a better service and a new phone'
He feigned surprise, as if to say he'd heard this a million times before.
'Oh what have they offered you?'
'500 Xnet, 150 texts for £15month'
Needless to say I had the last laugh.
He upped the texts to 225 and matched the rental/minutes and threw in the k750i.
CASHBACK!
Just a word of warning to everyone: they really ARE out of all Sony Ericsson phones at the moment as he tried to fob me off with a Nokia or Motorola. I told him my old phone was a Sony J5 and I was used to the Sony interface. They get a delivery of Sony phones on the 3rd of September.
Hope that helps everyone like it helped me.

Hi there. I just reached the end of my 12 month contract this August, so decided to call O2 about an upgrade.
Like most of you, I said I was going to cancel my contract as I got a better offer from 3 mobile. I quoted the offer of 500 Xnet minutes and 500 texts and said it was too good an offer. They put me on hold while they discussed it with their manager. They then said they could offer me the Discount 500, which is 500 minutes xnetwork for £25/month.
I said this was not good enough as I needed texts and I had to leave, so I asked for my PAC code. They then put me on hold again and eventually said they would offer it for £10/month (£15 line reduction) but this was the most they could do. If I wanted texts I would have to pay for bolt-ons, as they could not give the line-rental discount in addition to free texts.
So for £15/month I would get 500 mins plus 100 texts (£4 bolt on). For £19/month I would get 500 mins plus 200 texts (£9 bolt on) etc..
With this I asked for the V3 or k750i and he said he could do it for FREE but they didn't have the sony in stock. I said I needed more texts but he was adamant that it was the best he could do. I said I would therefore cancel and he told me my PAC code would be sent as a text message in 48 hours!
CRAP! However I called again and spoke to someone else, starting again by threatening to cancel. After a long conversation the best she could offer was £15/month 500 mins 100 texts plus £129.99 for V3/k750i. This was worse than before.
She wouldn't budge as she said my monthly spend was £12 so they couldn't offer me anymore (last years upgrade meant I paid £10 month for 500 mins off-peak Xnetwork plus 100 texts plus double for first 6 months). Again I said I wanted my PAC code and she didn't hesitate to offer it to me.
I was getting impatient but decided to call again. After many times the best I was getting was 500 mins, 100 texts for £15.
So I called one FINAL time and told person I was offered £15/month 500 mins and 200 texts plus free V3. However I said that they told me to call back about the possibility of more texts, as I needed 300-400. This was a lie, obviously!
She said they could give 300, so i then asked for 400! However she said no, and at this point I thought I shouldn't be too greedy and decided to accept. I didn't want her to speak to her manager as he might have told her not to even give me the 300 texts. I didn't want to go back down to my 100 texts.
So I accepted and my free V3 is on its way. So to summarise I will pay £15/month for 500 mins, 300 texts and free V3. Not too bad, although I wish I got the 500 texts!
Are those of you who got 500 texts on the online tariff? Is it because I am on the high street tariff (i.e. not online).
Hope this helps

haha you're so greedy man! lol...3 are rubbish anyway poor signal poor customer care, you don't wanna move to them, I know lots of friends who wanna get off the 3 network...it's just cheap cos they use cheap labour (indian i think..not an offence) that have to search the dictionary every few words you say. Plus they got poor phones too(though i could put up with k608 not that i have seen a cheap offer with it though :S) , I'm surprised O2 put up with your phone calls xD |

exactly - I would never go to 3. Only using their "offer" so O2 would give me a better one. That's why I was getting annoyed when O2 actually gave me my PAC code, as I had no intention of leaving. Got to drive a hard bargain, as their standard tariffs are a rip-off!
Btw compared to others my offer wasn't great. A lot of people got 500 mins, 500 texts for £15. Don't know how they managed it, especially it seems with little persuasion. When I called O2 they were quite stubborn, and didn't seem willing to offer be this great deal. |

What tarrif was you previously on? Maybe cos your monthly usage was low so they were relunctant to give you a better offer? |

Last year I was on O2 leisure time all - this is normally £25/month for 500 Xnet off-peak mins and 100 texts (double for first 6 months). However I got £15 off/month, so paid £10/month.
Therefore my average spending was about £12 - so maybe that's why they weren't doing everything to keep me as a customer. But I heard on another forum that they always offer more texts on the online tariffs, so maybe it's only possible to get the 500 texts if you are on an online tariff.
I wanted to upgrade from high street tariff to an online tariff, but it wasn't possible apparently. |

I have just completed what I would like to call phase 1 of obtaining the best O2 online deal.
I spoke to one of their reps explaining bad service experience throughout the year and reasons why I was considering another network - k700i text msg issues with O2 network, being charged for text and gprs when still withing allowance, a customer for two years, spend up to £40 some months, online billing down and the usual had a call from 3 network who offered a very competitive tariff.
I was offered loads of phones free (inc K750i - but currently out of stock) with 750 Xnetwork mins with 300 txts for £34 for 12 months.
I said I would think it over but in the meantime wanted my PAC code, to avoid another call at national rate, should I decide to leave.
I'm gonna leave it a week and see if they call and chase up their offer or suggest an alternative. In the meantime I'm gonna try other networks for similar deals, matching or beating O2's offer, that way if they do call I'm prepared with more ammo!!
I have until 14th Sep for my contract to expire so feel free to offer any suggestions or just simply watch this space........I'll let you know how it goes.
If you're going through hell - keep going. |
