with pixel 3 out today, i'd be interested to see how sony reacts. Google is leaning on its AI power and Sony just doesn't have that. All it has is the many years of photography expertise. What it can't do with software, it needs to do with hardware and design. Pixel 3 pretty much attacked the biggest selling point of XZ2P, which is it's lowlight capability. I really hope the next premium upgrades the dual cam.
I am not planning to upgrade for another 2 years, but if sony creates something amazing with the next premium, i may be tempted. To be honest, my biggest hesitation with the latest series is the ambient design. it has been refined and improved with XZ3, but it's still not for me. Hopefully there's a new design language in the pipeline. Otherwise, i may be looking at a Pixel 4 or 5 as my next phone.

Pixel 3 won't beat XZ2p at night.
Software can be improved but hardware limitation will show up.
It is still a 1/2.55" sensor.
XZ2p is like 1/2.3" + 1/2.3" + 1/2.3" +. 1/2.3" when ULTRA SENSITIVITY starts..
The video recording difference between the Premium and other phones is ridiculous.
All have been put to shame..
Pixel 3 just like Pixel 2 will fall when ISO pass 400.
Shorts from Premium at ISO 2000 beat Pixel2 at 400. |

Pixel 3 look meh for me...
Maybe XZ3 is better except the night shot and HDR.

^i take it that's your opinion cause that article doesn't even mention XZ3.
google's AI is very powerful and pixel 3's hardware is not pure crap either. put them together and they've got a force to be reckoned with.
shame their design includes a notch

This time their hardware is way behind the competition... Software can only do so much... Sony phones can also buffer images in the background...
I dont see a valid reason for buying the pixel 3 series.. They are even more overpriced than iphones lol |

I prefer the dual cam + Aube than google 's or Huawei 's special mode.
Google is going to do something like P20 Pro, many shots that end up like one of 6s.
The downside is the fact even with OIS, 1/3s can be hard to be steady.
Also the motion blur issues.
Sony's approach can deliver outstanding results while shutter is still 1/16s.
You have option to use up to 1s.
I got very disappointed with all reviews of Premium, I thought they would test all settings to show us how it looks in all situations.
I still do not know how photos look when is set 51200 + 1s.
Mobile01 was the only to do but it was not final unit yet.
Hands-on from Gsmarena had shots at ISO above 2000 that were better than shots from Pixel and S9 with ISO between 400-500.
U12+ is another easily defeated by Premium. Difference is shocking.
Any chance to see Aube on XA3 or is it a UWA?
In Taiwan XZ3 is 25990. Pixel 3 will be 27500.
For Docomo, XZ3 will cost more than Pixel.

Did anyone know that the head of Sony's Movie Studio is also one of the board members at Qualcomm?
No idea what this could mean moving forward but an even tighter collaboration between the two could be massive to RnD and getting early access to new CPU's.

I for one hope that we will see 21:9 screen from Sony. The romourd XA3 looks like a 21:9.
But the next Compact should also be a 21:9, maybe 4.5 inch screen? That would, if my calculations are correct, be a possibly size of 128mm x 52mm. Steal the design from Xperia Ray.
That would be my dream phone and it would absolutly kill on a market where no makers have any presence. Even sonys own compact's are getting to big for most pockets. |
