@Geoffxx
In 8MP mode Z1 uses pixel binning I believe just like Nokia Pureview 808/1020. They use 5MP resolution in pixel binning mode, Z1 uses 8 MP.

100% crops in low-light from the Z1 look equally bad as they do on any other smartphone. You're not supposed to look at 100% crops.
But, the much higher resolution means that when zoomed out you will get a better, more detailed picture, since there still is a lot more data to work with. |

The human eye cannot detect anything beyond 30fps, as for 4k recording I believe it is capable but just not enabled.....yet, my XZU was able to play 4k video and it was quite remarkable
These are very early days and I'm sure there is more to come in the coming weeks ahead, most of the negative posts here are baseless and biased, lets wait for some official reviews before making stupid comments that are unfounded
Right now there is only one authentic review which people are ignoring because it was released by Sony - go figure |

so are you saying they sort of remove every other pixel then - how do you know this is what they do with the Z1, I must go look up "pixel binning" to see what it means |

Sony Mobile confirmed that China will be the 1st one in the world to get Z1, and its already available online pre-order at Sony Style China, RMB 4999, WITH Charging dock!! AND Sony Portable Battery and phone protection. not bad, especially the dock!

that blurry mess posted is definitely from an out of focus area.
Oh really? So in a landscape shot, a little something to the left is already out of focus? So I need to change my mind, the sensor is not average it's crap

Yes, but then You like to watch slow motion movies from time to time, no?

And why should they be taken seriously, when they post photos that are 0,05 MP in size, while original images were 260 times bigger, I mean come on. And a weird rule no to use phone's flash. I got an idea, let's make a rule that photos has to be taken in 20,7 MP. I bet Z1 is best at it

No pixel binning, no PureView with pixel sampling - has pure image resize Old SE noise in camera stay again in poor light. In 8mp mode noise invisible. Xperia Z1 is great smartphone with Best Sony camera.

@ramu... great crops it seems, but macro... I'll wait for different photos... EDIT: The last you posted were really good crops so happy for the camera quality!!!
@moogoo +1 this is the deal... we all have to wait for official review from site with a bit of experience, everyone can take photos but few can take them correctly... so I'm not believing in shots from press reviewers as of now...
The only real downside I have with this phone is the absence of S-master MX chip.. I want to see and hear how the Speakers work!!
For the rest it's a beast, no point arguing this... the screen is awesome, the CPU is up to date, the UI is good (IMHO I like it) the camera seems promising, the battery is big and will carry me trough the day, it's IP58 and 55, it has flpless 3,5 jack, it has a good looking status LED, the design it's wonderful (BLACK for me!!!), bigger speaker... I'm really happy!!! will buy this as soon as possible...
Then let the haters hate... this time sony ha done it right! an ALL sides!
at least for me! I'll be a proud owner of Z1 really soon! and then I'll spam this thread with me and my bleoved Z1 I'll be too happy to care about the OT rules

The 100% crops I posted are now from landscape pictures, not macro.

Ever heard of Depth of Field? where do you think is the lens focused at? go think about it before spilling crap about something you don't clearly understand Z1 has an unusually large sensor + F2 constant aperture, if you know some basic photography you'd need F/4 and above if you want everything kept in focus, what you've just seen is an effect associated with faster lens.

Is the internal memory confirmed at 16GB? Anyone know if a 32GB version will be made available? I'd like to pre-order but the internal memory isn't listed anywhere at retailers and I wouldn't want to end up buying the 16GB if a 32GB will/does exist...
